Lauren Melfi Assignment 2

Students in 2nd grade typically are around the developmental age of seven years

old. At this age they should have a good working concept of directionality, focus on

small details that are close to their eyes and because of this visual development level they

often have a hard time copying things far away such as on a chalkboard or Smart Board.

Students that are seven should exhibit characteristics of hard workers and perfectionists,

trying to correct every small mistake. School as a routine and the structure of it is loved

by seven year olds along with their personal relationship that they have with their teacher.

At the age of 6, children are likely to be loud and energetic but become quieter, passive

and more specific in their speech and sometimes even tense. They are able to classify

things spontaneously and be proud of themselves when they succeed. Failure is a fear of

theirs and this feeling can lead them to become very upset. By the end of this year,

children should exhibit developmental qualities that eight year olds exhibit. Although

children could be seven years old, that does not mean that all children at the same age

exhibit the same developmental qualities. There are a lot of factors that influence the

process of development and behavior within a child. (Wood, 2007)
