Digital divide is the inequal access to Information, Communications and Technology (ICT), it
poses a problem because society cannot progress as a united whole. This problem exist
between developed and developing countries, and is caused by economic and educational
differences. The purpose of this essay is to evaluate the effectiveness of existing efforts such
as monetary foreign aid and subsidized computer training in an attempt to bridge the digital
divide between nations and age groups. In addition, new solutions like supplementing
infrastructures and equipment, and new solutions like diversifying training that can enhance
the current implementations will be mentioned.

A digital divide that exists between nations is largely due from economic differences. In
general, the economies of developing countries are mostly poor performing. For example, the
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita of the United States are USD 47,882 much higher
than that of Nigeria, which has a third world country with only GDP per capita of USD 1,509
(United Nations, 2011). As a result of poverty, developing countries lack inadequate capital
resources to construct ICT infrastructures such as broadband lines and acquire computers
(Brooks, Donovan and Rumble, 2005). The disparity between developing and developed
nations is an issue because the former is economically disadvantaged.

A feasible solutions can possibly be for foreign countries to build ICT infrastructures in
developing countries. This must have been be done by having developed countries to share
their expertise. Guide the locals on how to build ICT infrastructures such as server centres
and broadband lines. Not only does it stimulates the economy, it is also a stepping stone for
subsequent ICT development. other developed countries and private sectors can donate
computers, servers and cables to these impoverished countries as a form of aid. The building
of ICT infrastructures and providence of equipment will have been to ensure that adequate
help was given by develop the ICT in these less developed countries.

The problem with digital divide is that if allowed to continue to grow wider. The solution to
the digital divide requires the government to work closely with private sectors. charitable
organizations to provide the political will to provide adequate access so that the people
especially the poor can be empowered with ICTs and not be overwhelmingly disadvantaged
on the international stage.
