Drunk Driving A
Nationwide Problem
Every year thousands of
people are killed in
alcohol-related motor-
vehicle accidents.

About one-third of
drivers arrested for
driving while
intoxicated are repeat
offenders (National
Highway and Traffic
Safety Administration,
1995)
Dallas leads the nation in
alcohol-related fatalities
Data shows that U.S.
alcohol-related
fatalit[ies] are
regional and more
prevalent in the south
and west (Ying 2013).
The State of Texas is
consistently one of
states with the
highest numbers of
drunk-driving
accidents.
Our
Commitment to
the Community

As members of the Dallas

community, we feel a duty to
improve driving conditions and
promote safe habits.
We believe that through driver
education, we can create a
meaningful difference in drunk
driving accidents.
Background
More than 52% of
people in the United
States are
considered "regular
drinkers".
Drink driving
accidents also have
impact on innocent
bystanders
Four Basic Strategies are Used to
Reduce Drunk Driving Accidents

Prevention Deterrence

Estimate total numbers of workshops
Budget

Based on estimations of size, date, location,

and staff requirements
a) Speakers at the workshops
1. Volunteers
2. Paid speakers
b) Location of workshops
1. Indoors are likely expensive
2. Outdoors are likely cheaper
Budget Cont.

Advertising for videos and photos are $0.25 and $0.50 respectively.
Staffing includes paid-speakers, technicians, and volunteers.
Venue costs approximately $100/hr, with plans to do 200

Advertising Staffing Venue Total Budget

Est. Cost $8,750 $10,000 $20,000 $38,750

Authorization Request

Alcohol-related motor-vehicle
accidents are avoidable
We reviewed academic studies
to create our unique approach
Conventional programs focus
on fear of consequence
CDC data shows this to be
ineffective
Authorization Request

Our proposal will cause a

meaningful reduction in drunk
driving accidents in the Dallas
area by:
Establishing social norms
Reaching the 18-35 year-old
demographic
We are requesting $19,375 from
the chamber to fund this project.
