Vocabulary Lesson #1

By: Micah, Noemi, Estefani

Todays Objective
Students will learn an abstract of the Jim Crow Laws
and analyze vocabulary words from the article Jim
Crow Policy.
Quick Recap
Jim crow Laws were state and local laws enforcing
racial segregation in the Southern States. This was
enacted after the reconstruction period and continued
in force until 1965.
Quickwrite
Give a guess on the Jim Crow Policy.
Write a paragraph and explain your thoughts.
Intro to the story
The Jim Crow Policy is mentioned in an article that talks about the
discrimination that young black and Hispanic New Yorkers, including
children face by police officers. 84 percent of the stops in the first
three- quarters of 2009 were of black or Hispanic New Yorkers.
The real number of people harassed is undoubtedly higher than the
numbers reported by police. It ends with an argument that the Jim
Crow Policy should be exterminated because the fact that a certain
percentage of criminals are black or Hispanic is no reason for the
police to harass people from these groups if there is no indication
that they have done something wrong.
