Influences Of The Individual Physical Properties

PROPERTY INFLUENCES

Density: Stiffness, hardness, tensile strength, elongation, softening temperatures,

chemical resistance, permeability, abrasion resistance, and brittleness.

Melt Index: Molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, processability of resin,

fusion pressures and temperatures, impact strength, resistance to creep,
high temperature performance, ESCR, and elongation at break.

Flexural Modules: Cold bend radius, contouring of the pipe to the environmental
condition, flexibility.

Tensile Strength: Design pressure characteristic, and pull strength.

ESCR: Environmental Stress Crack Resistance, point loading, cold bending,

and chemical resistance.

Other Physical Properties: Defined under ASTM D 3350, but not covered in cell class.

Elongation ASTM D 638: Amount of the ductility of the pipe, ability to withstand vibration,
ground shift and cold bending <600%.

Vicat Softening: Structural Integrity of pipe + 257F

Brittleness Temperature: Performance at low temperature application, stiffening of the pipe

ASTM D 746 at low temperature performance to - 180F.

Modulus of Elasticity: Allows pipe to be deformed progressively without permanent

ASTM D 638 damage, ovality, roundness, surge pressure resistance, and brittleness.
Allows clamping of the pipe to initiate repairs.
