SUMMARY
Hydrological evaluation of a dam for watering rice crops in Entre Ros
The province of Entre Ros has an important hydric net that stands out for the
great potential of its superficial waters dedicated mainly to watering rice crops.
The northern area, with 50 % of its surface covered with shrubland, having
good aptitude soils and land conditions and low availability of underground
water, is a region apt for watering from superficial water. There are 63 dams in
the province destined to watering, being these ones a valid alternative. The
main problem presented for the use of such resource is its availability due to
the annual distribution of rainfalls and its high annual irregularity. The purpose

of this study was to evaluate the potential use of the hydric superficial resource
destined to watering of rice from reservoirs and storage. A dam was
implemented for watering rice cultivars in the northern center of the province
with a climatic station, a hydrometric scale, a rain gage and measurings of
pumping flows. Also a model of hydric balance was generated for the dam. It
was demonstrated that a dam does not supply the hectares projected with
watering every hydrological year, for it is not considered the relationship
between Volume stored in the reservoircontributing watershed and the annual
recharge between periods of watering. The inflows to the system are draining
in the watershed 64 % and precipitation on the reservoir 36 %. The outflow is
represented by evaporation in 16 %, infiltration 9 % and watering 75 %.
