The Act of Teaching Chapter 8 adds up four more instructional alternatives in

teaching. First, Cooperative learning encourages a group activity and working

together in order to receive accomplishments in a collective way. Next, Discovery

learning allows student to discover something by their ownselves. Also,

constructivism expands students capability to understand and formulate reasoning

with the guidance of the teacher. Lastly, direct instruction is delivering the

information in effective and valuable way so the students could learn about it.

Compared to the previous reflection I had with Act of Teaching Chapter 7, these

additional instructional alternatives provides student in application, analysis and

evaluation level of Blooms Taxonomy. To begin, Cooperative learning provides an

individual student to assess her work or responsibility out of the group activity. It is

because the suggestion and opinion of the team matters. A person cannot improve

without help of others. By receiving help from others, it helps you to analyze your

work either effective or not. In the Bible, we are encourage to work together as one

body in Christ. Each of us has different function and the varieties of works we have

could provide different perspective. To ask someones opinion opens your way to

see problem in another perspective and is very helpful to reach a certain solution.

Second, Discovery learning involves your application to learning by having

internal critical thinking. A student cannot solve anything without acting first of

his/her process. Moreover the application needs critical analysis of what to do, andd

how to do. On my research for my essay topic the implementation of Mother

Tongue Based Multilingual Education, I engage with discovery learning. I had to take

time on researching, reading books and relative articles for my research. I spent

night and day to write my assumptions, claim, and grounds. Not just doing all of this
things, but it involves thinking and evaluating in my mind of which research could

help me best. At the end of my research, I discover the answer I want to get on my

topic not by mere opinion from myself but a logical evidence from scholarly journal.

Lastly, constructivism and direct instruction could work together. Direct

instruction focuses on ways that could be effective inside the classroom. So,

constructivism is one of the efficient method in teaching students to create their

own independent understanding base on the lesson. Direct instruction started from

the guidance of a teacher. Although constructivism gives freedom to student of

which way they will pass for their own strategies in learning, it still needs teachers

guidance. There, teacher could plan for direct instruction for them.

In conclusion, instructional activities should meet the knowledge, memorizing,

understanding, application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation of the Blooms

taxonomy to have a greater possibility of achieving the needs of students.
