Some educationalists argue that non-exam, arts-based subjects, such

as music, drama, art and craft, should be compulsory in the

secondary-school curriculum. They believe that activities such as
these can improve overall academic performance.

Agree/disagree; Reasons + examples

****

Whilst some educational experts are of the opinion that art-based

subjects should be obligatory in the secondary school, others believe that
only essential subjects (such as mathematics and physics) matters. In my
opinion, education should have a balance between regular and art-based
subjects.

To begin, some people think that art-subjects represent a waste of time for
students. They support this argument by saying that these topics take study-
time away from essential subjects. In addition, it is argued that a lot of
pointless homework such as drafts and drawings are given to the students.

However, some people oppose these views. Firstly, they claim that artistic
subjects help to improve soft skills (like creativity and imagination),
increasingly required for jobs. Also, these practical art subjects can release
stress and tension in students.

To sum up, I strongly believe that art-based subjects must be taught in

secondary school to improve pupils skills.
