Scientific Text: Memory and the Brain
Synapses are important for sending information from one neuron in the brain to another. A synapse is the name given to
a cell structure that sends electric and chemical energy to different sections of the brain. When this event occurs, scientists say
that a synapsis has taken place.
The Role of Synapses and Memory
Information that is stored in the brain is lost if this information is not rehearsed periodically. When several synapses are
activated at the same time and rehearsal happens, information is stored into a permanent section of the brain. As a result,
scientists believe that synapses are for memory.
