The student can understand about English grammar and focus in comparative degree.

4. 10 Develop oral and written texts to express and ask about the comparison of the
number and nature of people, animals, objects, taking into social context and the structure of
text.

Using pattern in sentence for comparative degree
Using comparative degree sentence in real live.
Using general rule in comparative degree.

1. Students are able to make sentence in comparative degree.
2. Students are able to understand functions about comparative degree.
3. Students are able to understand general rule in the material.

1. Comparative Degree is used to make a comparison between two things.
2. Forming Comparative Degree:
To be + Adjective + -ER + Than OR To be + More + Adjective + Than

3. There are some rules to make comparative form:


a. The adjective which consist of one-syllable, add -ER in the end of the word.
Examples: Tall Taller
Old Older
Long Longer
b. The adjective which consist of one-syllable with final -E, just add -R in the end of
word.
Examples: Large Larger
Wise Wiser
c. The adjective which consist of one-syllable ends with a single consonant with a
vowel before it (Consonant Vowel Consonant), double the consonant and add ER in
the of word.
Examples: Big Bigger
Thin Thinner
Fat Fatter
d. The adjective which ending with Y, change the y to i and add ER in the end of
word.
Examples: Happy Happier
Angry Angrier
Busy Busier
d. The adjective which consist of two-syllables or more, just add MORE in front of the
word.
Examples: Careful More Careful
Beautiful More Beautiful
Difficult More Difficult
