estimated to die of diarrhoea alone and 73 million working days are lost because of waterborne diseases each
year. The resulting economic problem is estimated at $600 million a year.

In 2005, 60% of Indias children below the age of three were malnourished. Malnutrition can be defined as the
unhealthy condition that results from not eating enough healthy food. The main health issues for women are
malnutrition, breast cancer and maternal mortality. Approximately 1.72 million children die each year before
turning one.

How many people in the country suffer from obesity in the country?
Obesity in India has reached sweeping amounts in the 21st century, with extreme obesity affecting 5% of the
country's population. This is because unhealthy, processed food has become loads more available after India's
constant incorporation in global food markets.
How many people die each year from diseases such as HIV in your country? If it is a high rate, why do you
think this is the case?
It is estimated that 25% of Indians may die of lifestyle diseases before they are 70. Every year, roughly 5.8 million Indians die from heart and lung diseases, stroke, cancer
and diabetes. The estimated number of people living with HIV is 2.08 million. There may not be enough medical facilities available to treat these diseases, poor hygiene
and they may spread.
