MODULE OF ROBOTIC CLUB 2017

Definition of robotics

The branch of technology that deals with the design, construction, operation, and application of
robots.

The Three Goals Of Robotics

1. Ensure the survival of life and intelligence.

2. Ensure the safety of individual sentient beings.

3. Maximize the happiness, freedom, and well-being of individual sentient beings.

The set includes:

EV3 Programming Software
Three interactive servo motors with built-in rotation sensors.
Color sensor, gyro sensor, ultrasonic sensor, and two touch sensors
Rechargeable battery and charger
Ball wheel
Connecting cables.
Building instructions.
LEGO Technic building bricks for creating a vast variety of model

LEGO Mindstorms Ed EV3 Intelligent Brick

This programmable, intelligent brick serves as the heart and brain of LEGO Mindstorms
Education EV3 robots.

It features an illuminated six-button interface that changes colour to indicate the bricks active
state, a high-resolution black and white display, built-in speaker, USB port, a mini SD card
reader, four input ports and four output ports.

The brick also supports USB, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi communication with a computer and has a
programming interface that enables programming and data logging directly onto the brick.

It is compatible with mobile devices and is powered by AA batteries or the EV3 Rechargeable
DC Battery (not included and sold separately). The brick features:

ARM 9 processor with Linux-based operating system

Four input ports for data acquisition of up to 1000 samples per/sec
Four output ports for execution of commands
On-board program storage including 16 MB of Flash memory and 64 MB of RAM
Mini SDHC card reader for 32 GB of expanded memory
Illuminated, three-colour, six-button interface that indicates the bricks active state
Hi-resolution 178128 pixel display enabling detailed graph viewing and sensor data
observation
High-quality speaker
On-brick programming and data logging that can be uploaded into the EV3 software
Computer-to-brick communication through on-board USB, or external Wi-Fi or
Bluetooth dongles
USB 2.0 host enabling bricks to be linked in a daisy chain, allows Wi-Fi communication
and connection to USB memory sticks
Powered by six AA batteries or the 2050 mAh lithium ion EV3 Rechargeable DC Battery
LEGO Mindstorms Ed EV3 Colour
Light Sensor
The digital LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Colour Sensor distinguishes between eight different
colours.

It also serves as a light sensor by detecting light intensities.

Students can build colour sorting and line-following robots, experiment with light
reflection of different colours, and gain experience with a technology that is widely used
in industries like recycling, agriculture and packaging.

The EV3 colour sensor measures reflected red light and ambient light, from darkness to
very bright sunlight. It is capable of detecting eight colours. It can tell the difference
between colour or black and white, or between blue, green, yellow, red, white and brown.

The EV3 colour sensor has a sample rate of 1 kHz. Auto-ID is built into the EV3 software
to easily detect the colour sensor when connected to the EV3 brick. Use the EV3 colour
sensor in combination with the EV3 core set (LEG45544, sold separately) and the EV3
software (sold separately). The EV3 colour sensor is included in the EV3 core set, but
can also be bought here as additional sensor to your LEGO Education EV3 range or as a
replacement sensor.
LEGO Mindstorms Ed EV3 Touch
Sensor

The EV3 Touch Sensor has three different modes: It can be pressed, released or it counts
the number of presses.

LEGO Mindstorms Ed EV3 Gyro

Sensor
The LEGO Education digital EV3 Gyro Sensor measures the robots rotational motion and
changes in its orientation. Students can measure angles, create balancing robots and
explore the technology that powers a variety of real-world tools like Segway, navigation
systems and game controllers.

Key features of the LEGO Education Gyro Sensor: Angle mode measures angles with
an accuracy of +/- 3 degrees Gyro mode has a maximum output of 440 degrees/second
Sample rate of 1 kHz Auto-ID is built into the EV3 software The gyro sensor can be
used in combination with the LEGO Mindstorms Education EV3 (not included and sold
separately).

LEGO Mindstorms Ed EV3 Ultrasonic Sensor

The EV3 Ultrasonic Sensor is an ideal resource to measure distance and detect objects
around the EV3.
