Timber Bracing

Installation Specification
for use with Multinail Timber Trusses
Introduction
Top chord bracing may be affected Viewed on plan, the brace must lie at 30 to Safety Note: Timber brace must be
by using (minimum) 75 x 38mm (F8) the top plate and should run continuously securely fixed to the wall top plate or the
hardwood or 70 x 35mm (F5) softwood. from near the apex of the roof to the wall bracing will be ineffective (See Heel Detail).
top plate. (Refer diagram).
These braces are fixed to the under side
of the top chord of each truss with a
minimum of 2 x 75mm nails or 2/Triple
Grips (where nailing is impractical).

To transfer bracing loads to the wall top

plate:

1. Bend the brace upwards so it sits on top

of the top plate and butts up to the next
truss in the region of the heel plate.

2. Fis the the two trusses on either side of Timber block xed tightly
between trusses using 2
the end of the bracing to the wall top plate nails at each end
with two Triple Grips.
70 x 35mm F5 Brace with
2/75mm nails in each truss
3. Tightly fit a short strut, 90 x 35mm (F5)
between the two trusses and bolt to the Truss Top Chords

brace with one M12 bolt. Fix the strut to

each of the two trusses as shown in the
diagram.

Apex Fixing
The following diagram shows the method
for fixing Timber Bracing at the apex.

bracing loads to the wall top plate.

Install one bay of diagonal bracing at each

end of the run of trusses and intermediate
bays at intervals of 10 meters.

Timber Bracing for Web Ties
Some truss designs require longitudinal
ties be applied to webs. These ties should
be sizes, fixed and spliced as for chord
braces. They must also be braced back
to the top and bottom chords in at least
one position as shown in the diagram.
The brace must be angled to pick up each
intersection of web and web tie.

The end of the Timber Brace must be fixed

with two Triple Grips. Installl one bay of
diagonal bracing at each end of the run of
trusses and intermediate bays at intervals
of 10 metres. Angle of Timberbrace Web tie, 70 x 35mm F5,
to web ties shall be xed to each truss web
