To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Angela Apodaca and I am a Program Specialist at the nonprofit

organization Global Girls Leading Our World (G.L.O.W.). I have been with G.L.O.W.
for three years. As a writer, actor and educator based in the Los Angeles area, I came
to G.L.O.W. with expertise in expressive arts and youth programming as well as my
experience establishing mentorship programs during my service as an AmeriCorps
State and National member. As a Program Specialist at G.L.O.W., I oversee programs
in Santa Ana, California. G.L.O.W. programs create meaningful experiences for girls
around transformational literacy, creative self-expression, and mentorship.

Part of my duties as a Program Specialist include making regular program site visits.
During my program visits I have had the pleasure of getting to know Salma Alba well
and observing her in group settings.

Salma has been a dedicated member of G.L.O.W. for the past four years. During this
time, Salma has always kept a good life balance, carefully organizing her time so that
she can continue to participate in G.L.O.W. programs without compromising her
academics. In fact, Salma finds ways to create connections between G.L.O.W. and
school projects which has been wonderful to witness. For one school project, she
interviewed me regarding my perspective on various womens issues and current
events impacting women today.

One of Salmas most notable accomplishments in G.L.O.W. was when she traveled to
New York City last year with a delegation of high school girls from Santa Ana to
represent G.L.O.W. at the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) Youth Forum.
The CSW is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the
promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. During the CSWs
annual youth forum, young men and women gather at the United Nations

headquarters to bring their ideas to the global conversation on the Sustainable

Development Goals (SDGs). Salmas voice was crucial in this unique international
learning and leadership event.

In addition, Salma has made many valuable contributions through various volunteer
opportunities at G.L.O.W. Salma has served as a near peer mentor for middle school
girls in our after school programs including our teen space, G.L.O.W. Cafe, where she
serves as a mentor for eighth grade girls. She helps lead activities and group
discussions on a variety of topics including art, film, and social issues. For the past
two years Salma has also provided important youth leadership presence and
support at our largest community event, our annual 5k run.

I look forward to seeing Salmas goals and dreams come to fruition as she takes the
next steps in her life after high school graduation. I have no doubt that Salma will
pursue her goals and dreams with a great deal of tenacity, courage, and positivity
which are just a few of her many strengths!

Sincerely,

Angela M. Apodaca
