Course Description: A general orientation course which considers the nature of research problems in education and
the techniques used by investigators in solving those problems. Therefore, specifics of research design,
measurement, and systematic study of educational problems are considered in the course.
Textbooks:
Gay, L. R., Mills, G. E., & Airasian, P. (2012). Educational research (10th edition). Upper Saddle River, NJ:
Pearson Education, Inc.
American Psychological Association (2010). Publication manual of the American Psychological Association
(6th edition). Washington, DC: Author.
REMS 5013 Class notes will be made available and posted on D2L. Please print and bring them to class.
Course Requirements:
1. Class Assignments: There will be assignments throughout the semester. Assignments will be completed on
D2L or submitted in class.
2. Tests: There will be 2 tests. If you are unable to take the test you must notify the instructor BEFORE the
date of the test to reschedule.
3. Proposal: Each student will be required to submit a research proposal, demonstrating the student's ability
to choose, interpret, and discuss the research designs learned in class as well as an appropriate literature
review. The paper must be in current APA format.
4. Grading: Final grade will based on homeworks, exams, and the proposal.
Two tests will be worth 100 points each
Proposal will be worth 100 points
Quizzes/assignments throughout the semester approximately 100 points total
A: 90 100%
B: 80 89%
C: 70 79%
D: 60 69%
F: 59%

Foul Weather Policy: Class will be held if the university is open. However, each student is encouraged to use their
own discretion.
Special Accommodations: If you believe you have a disability and need special accommodations, please visit the
Student Success Center, North Hall (204). Please advise me of any such disability before, during, or immediately
after the first scheduled class period.
Disruptive Behavior : Please be considerate of others! Disruptive behavior (i.e., talking during class, use of cell
phones, etc.) will not be tolerated and can result in being asked to leave class.
