Habitats
Lesson Content Description:
Students will view a video explaining habitats. They will then do a
close read about deserts and rainforests and complete a venn
diagram. The T. wil then review vocabulary words with students,
relating to habitats. They will then cut and glue the matching
habitat picture to the definition.

Instructional Strategies/Method of Delivery:


-T. will show a video to students which introduces all habitats.
-Students will do a close read to better understand similarities and differences between
rainforests and deserts.
-T. will present habitat vocabulary to students.
-Students will cut and paste vocabulary words to the corresponding picture.
Standard:
Students know different plants and animals inhabit different kinds of environments and have
external features that help them thrive in different kinds of places.
ELD Standard:

Describe ideas, phenomena (e.g., plant life cycle), and text elements (e.g., characters) based on
understanding
of a select set of grade-level texts and viewing of multimedia, with substantial support.
Common Core Lesson Objective:
Students will be able to identify the different habitats and have a basic understanding of the
characterisitics.
Assessment:
Formative: T. will listen to what students understood about similarities and differences between
rainforests and deserts.
Summative: T. will collect students books to see that students matched up the words correctly.
Lesson/Assessment Modifications: ELL: Special Needs
EL- Will be seated next to a specific student who can help the EL with reading the vocabulary
terms.
Speech-Student will be provided with additional time to answer questions, if called on.
Technology: Describe the types of technology you will be utilizing in your lesson to create
and enhance instruction
T. will use a video about habitats to provide several visuals and explanations. T. will
also be using document projector so students are following along.

-T. will explain that they will be learning about habitats and the plants and animals that live
in those habitats.
-T. will show students a Turtle Diary video introducing habitats.

-T. will distribute students their habitat book.


-T. will read the article Habitat several times while asking the following questions:
-T. will ask What is a habitat? What is a Rainforest? What is a desert?
Students will underline their answers.
-T. will then have students circle adjectives to describe these habitats.

-T. will explain the venn diagram to students.
-T. will ask students for items to put into each part of the venn diagram.
-T. will complete venn diagram with students.

-T. will then explain that students will be cutting out the pictures of biomes and the words. They
will glue the correct word, next to the corresponding picture and color if they have time.
