Ethernet Communications

The CP243-1 Ethernet module is a communications processor for the S7-200 family that allows a S7-200 PLC to be linked to an
Industrial Ethernet network.
The Ethernet module includes the following features:
Communication based on TCP/IP and ISO communication standards
Factory installed MAC address
Peer-to-peer communications with other S7 devices
Auto sensory full duplex or half duplex communications, 10 MB and 100 MB
Multiple connections (up to 8)
Client or Server configuration options
You have three different types of communication options when using the Ethernet module:
1. Connecting the Ethernet Module with a STEP 7-Micro/WIN PLC
2. Connecting the Ethernet Module with other S7 components (S7-200/S7-300)
3. Connecting the Ethernet module with OPC applications
Once you have created an Ethernet configuration using the Ethernet Wizard, you must download the project through STEP 7-
Micro/WIN.
Note: Refer to: STEP 7-Micro/WIN Online Help > Set Up Communications > Ethernet Communications > Ethernet Wizard for
step-by-step instructions on the Ethernet Wizard.
This topic discusses the following:
Entering the Network Address for the S7-200 CP243-1 Ethernet Module in S7-200 PC Access
Setting the IP Address and TSAPs for the S7-200 CP243-1 Ethernet Module

Follow these steps to set up communication with a TCP/IP Ethernet network:
1. Right-click the MicroWin access point, and select PG/PC Interface from the menu.

2. Select the Ethernet card for your machine. Once you complete your configuration, click OK on the Set PG/PC Interface dialog box.

3. Next, in the Tree View, right-click the PLC icon, and select Properties from the menu.

4. In the PLC Properties dialog, use the IP Address Browser button to select or enter the IP address for the corresponding CP243-1
Ethernet module. The only IP addresses that are used by both S7-200 PC Access and STEP 7-Micro/WIN are the IP addresses you have
configured and saved with the IP Address Browser.

5. Enter the Local and Remote TSAPs by using either the TSAP portion of the IP Address Browser , or the TSAP portion of the
PLC Properties dialog.

You configure the IP Address and TSAPs for the S7-200 CP243-1 Ethernet Module with STEP 7-Micro/WIN. The S7-200 project stores
the IP Address and TSAPs that the S7-200 CP243-1 Ethernet Module will use when attached to the network. After you select the
parameters for the S7-200 CP243-1 Ethernet Module, you must download the S7-200 project before the changes will take effect.

Note: The IP Address and TSAPs that you set in
STEP 7-Micro/WIN must match the IP Address
and TSAPs that you set in S7-200 PC Access.
