1. Introduction
1.1 Purpose
This document describes the usage and functionality of the LCD GUI on the EBOX. It will guide
the user through the various tabs of the GUI and explain the different states of the GUI as you
navigate through it.

1.2 Scope
This document only deals with the viewing and operation of the GUI with regard to the
generator. It is not as extensive or in-depth as the web GUI and only means to provide viewing
of various control states, alarms, variables, and light configuration. Information on the tabs may
not go into full detail as the elements displayed are self-explanatory. Elements that are not
immediately identifiable will be explained.

1.3 Abbreviations

Terminology Abbreviation

Engine Box EBOX

Liquid-Crystal Display LCD

Graphical User Interface GUI

Engine Controller Unit ECU

Programmable Logic Controller PLC

Low Voltage Battery Disconnect LVBD

1.4 Terminology
Controller - refers to the master processing unit that also displays the GUI to the LCD. Any
update packages are uploaded to the controller.

1.5 Notice
Elements on the GUI screenshots shown as N/A may not apply to different customers and
countries depending on the features they require or provide themselves. The screenshots and
examples are only used as reference and may not reflect the version of the LCD GUI that is
used in production.

2. Start Screen

After bootup, the start screen of the LCD GUI is the first tab that is shown by default. At the top
shows the tabs available and are the primary means of navigating the touch interface. It is
recommended to use a pin as to help navigate the screen with less chance of missing; however,
navigating the screen with a steady finger is also possible, but may bring difficulty to those with
large hands.

In the center area below the tabs, the software (SW) version number is shown. When updating
the controller, the version number shown is a way to validate that the controller has been
successfully updated.

The buttons Connect and Disconnect simply pauses the LCD GUI from updating its values.

The status bar at the bottom indicates the various states of the controller as well as generator.

State Explanation

The GUI has started up and is attempting to

connect with database.

The GUI has established connection with

database and is now waiting to hear back

from ECU and PLC. During this time, access
to all tabs are disabled.

The GUI is now reading and updating with

Navigation through tabs are enabled again.

After 90 seconds, a timeout occurs and there

PLC.

Notable Elements
Safety Stop - Shows the state of the EBOX and whether it is forbidden from starting or
stopping the generator. When the emergency stop (Red button on front of EBOX) is
pressed, Safety Stop is set to enabled and will not go away until the emergecy stop is
released.
Crank Attempts - Shows the number of crank attempts after the generator fails to start
and to which a crank attempt has failed.
Engine Run Time - Shows the

Notable Elements

2.3 Batteries

Notable Elements
Voltage Drift - This is the difference between the ECU Voltage and PLC Voltage. Both of
them should be as close to each other as possible and any difference is displayed as the
voltage drift. Typically, it should be as close to 0 as possible or else a voltage drift alarm
will occur.
8

3. Alarms Tabs
3.1 Generator Alarms

Notable Elements
None
9

3.2 ECU Alarms

ECU Alarms deal with error states within the ECU. Typically, any ECU alarm > 9 indicates an
issue with a sensor, connection, or output. For example, when the emergency stop button is
pressed on the front of the EBOX, GenEngineEStop will display greater than 9 until the stop
button is released.

Some ECU Alarms may not disappear automatically after the problem is fixed. Reset Alarms
must be pressed in order to clear the ECU Alarms. If a value comes back as greater than 9, that
means the issue has not been resolved.
10

4. Configuration Tabs
4.1 Targets

Configuration of various target output values of the generator do not persist after the EBOX is
restarted.
11

4.2 Calibration

Calibration values are persisted as they relate to values of the ECU. Special consideration must
be taken when required to adjust the values.
12

5. Operations Tab
5.1 Generator Operations

By default, the mode of the generator is set to Primary Voltage Auto mode. When in any mode
aside from Manual Run mode, starting and stopping the generator is disallowed and can only be
started by switching the mode switch on the front of the EBOX to its appropriate position (See
6.1 Operation Modes).

Clear Safety Stop can only be pressed when Safety Stop is enabled (See 2.1 Generator) and
when safety stop is allowed to be cleared. Usually, when there is an ECU fault, the clearing the
safety stop is not allowed until the problem causing the ECU fault is removed. If there are also
ECU Alarms that has not been cleared, safety stop cannot be cleared.

ECU Reset resets the ECU, but it is typically uncommon to need to reset the ECU unless there
has been ECU elements outside of the scope of the GUI that has been changed.
13

5.2. Tests

There are two provisioning tests that are available to run from the LCD GUI.

Post test traverses a set of variables from the generator and checks to make sure they
are valid and within a reasonable range.
LVBD test checks to see that the power supply is can be disconnected and reconnected
without any issues. If there is a LVBD Disconnected alarm, then the test will result in
failure.
14

For both tests, an output area is displayed showing the current status or result of the tests.
Once the test is started by pressing the Start button, the test will not allow any exiting until the
test has complete. All updates to values in other tabs will be disabled until the test has
completed.
15

6. Setup Tabs
6.1 Operations Modes

Unlike the web GUI, switching modes is limited to timer run, primary voltage auto, and manual
run. For full configuration options, refer to the configuration page on the web GUI.

The disabled button indicates the current mode the controller and subsequently generator is on.
If a mode is selected, the controller will reboot and the changes will come into effect afterwards.

The mode switch on the front of the EBOX should be switched to its appropriate position with
respect the mode set in the controller, otherwise, the generator will not start and an Invalid
EBOX Switch Position alarm will show.

6.2 Time/Date
The time may not be correct for the receiving country. If not already set by default, the timezone
must be changed as well.

Time, date, and timezone can all be altered under the setup tab of the LCD GUI and under the
Time/Date sub-tab. The date and current time can be seen and should be verified to make sure
it matches the time of the client.

Within timezone, the currently set timezone is highlighted in a tree view of countries, their
respective provinces (state), and any cities within. The most in-depth choice must be highlighted
or else no timezone change will be applied.
e.g. Picking South America (as America) when you are in Buenos Aires is not valid. You should

choose America > Argentina > Buenos Aires.

For changing the time or date, a selectable input of date and time is shown. Simply select the
portion of the date or time to change and use the arrow keys to the right.
17

Once everything has been set, submit the changes in the main dash. The controller should turn
off and reboot.
