L:0 T:0 P:2 Credits:1

Course Outcomes: Through this course students should be able to

Analyze the practical aspects of fluid statics and fluid dynamics.

Develop fundamental knowledge of characteristics of fluid flow in pipes.

Familiarize with methods to determine performance characteristics of hydraulic

machinery.

List of
Practicals / Flow Through Pipes : To determine the friction factor for the pipes (Major Losses).,
Experiments
To determine the minor losses in a pipe network due to sudden bend, elbow
joint, sudden enlargement, sudden contraction, gate valve and ball valve.
Dynamics of Fluid Flow : To determine the coefficient of discharge of Orifice meter
and venturimeter., To establish the relationship between the head over notch/weir
and discharge., To conduct experiments on Pitot tube and find actual velocity,
theoretical velocity and coefficient of velocity.
Hydraulic Machines : To study the performance characteristics of a reciprocating
pump., To study the performance characteristics of a Pelton Turbine., To study the
performance characteristics of a Francis Turbine., To study the performance
characteristics of a centrifugal pump.
Fluid Statics : To determine the metacentric height of a given body
