Abstract

In order to launch the rocket to the space, it needs the large amount of energy in

blasting process. You may be curious about how much it is. But, it sound impossible to settle

the real rocket with use tremendously amount of the energy by your own. The way you could

know how much it is can be done by the chemical rocket experiment. In this experiment, we

just need only 2 simple ingredients - vinegar and soda.

Introduction

For using the the abilities of vinegar and baking Soda when they mix together, its

potential to explode that have and reactant

Objective

To determine the chemical ratio amount that it efficiency in launching the rocket by

vinegar and baking soda to the target.

Material

1. Vinegar

2. Baking soda

3. 2 empty 1.5 liter plastic bottles

4. Feature board

5. Wine Cork

6. Launching Base

7. Molding Clay

8. Paper Cone

9. Tape
10. Spray Color

11. Tissue

12. Measuring Equipment

Method

1. Cut one of the emptied bottles in half.

2. Add molding clay to the top half of the cut bottle

3. Connect the top half of the cut bottle to the bottom end of the another

emptied bottle

4. Seal the connected part with the tape

5. Cut feature board out in three pieces into wings

6. Connect the wings on the bottle

7. Put the paper cones on the top part of the bottle and seal them together

8. Spray the spray color on the rocket bottle

9. Measure the angle and cut the wooden board into triangle

10. Connect the board and form into the launcher base

11. Bring the rocket bottle to measure weight before filling chemical

12. Collect the data (1st times)

13. Place the tissue in measuring equipment.

14. Pour the baking soda on the tissue

15. Weight it as your value and put it on paper

16. Roll it and pack it with tape (Make sure it not leak out)

17. Pour the vinegar in a measuring cylinder

18. Estimated it as your value and pour it to the rocket

19. Put the tissue that has the baking soda inside the rocket
20. Put a wine cork to close the rocket (Dont make it too tight)

21. Reverse it to launching side and put it in launching base

22. Wait for it launching

23. Record the result

Result

For the first try, the rocket mass was 99.77 g, we used 200 ml of vinegar and 18 g of

baking soda, with the launching base of 45 degree, it flew 18m. It didnt hit the target. For the

second try, the rocket mass was 99.77 g, we used 200 ml of vinegar and 20g of baking soda,

with the launching base of 45 degree, it flew 20m. It hit the target in the second ring.

Discussion: Calculation

Vinegar - Gram to Mole

1 mole of vinegar = 60.05 g/mol/

200ml / 60.05 will equal to 3.33 mol.

Baking Soda - Gram to Mole

1 mole of Baking Soda = 84.007 g/mol

18 g / 84.007 will equal to 0.214 mol.

Gas - Gram to Mole

1 mole of Gas = 0.214 mol

0.214 / 44.01 will equal to 9.42 g.

Suggestion

If we can do this project again we would improve it by set the wing for

more accuracy. Also, adding the weight of the rocket head by using molding clay to prevent

overblown. Also we might try to use less vinegar and baking soda so that it would have more

space to produce gas and it would go more far.

Conclusion

As the result of the experiment, we reach 20 meters with 220 ml. of vinegar and 18 g.

of baking soda. It around the second circle, count it from outside. The amount of air inside of

the rocket, amount of the chemical and rockets weight are the most important factors.
