ABSTRACT

Kaipi, Siti. (2015). Teaching English Vocabulary Parts of Body by Using Pictures to the
Seventh Grade Students of SMPN 2 Payaraman. Thesis, English Education Study Program,
Sarjana Degree (S1), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Muhammadiyah University

The formulation of this study was: Is it effective to teach english vocabulary parts of body
by using pictures to the seventh grade students of SMPN 2 Payaraman?. Therefore, the main
objective of this study was to find out whether or not it is effective to teach english
vocabulary parts of body by using pictures to the seventh grade students of SMPN 2
Payaraman. This study used quasi experimental method to compare of two groups namely the
experimental group and the control group. The population of this study was the seventh grade
students of SMPN 2 Payaraman. There were two classes or 40 students. The data collected
through test and analyzed by match t-test analysis. It was calculated by using SPSS 16.0. The
test was given twice with the same items tests. The items of the test in the post-test were
exactly the same as those in the pre-test. The differences between them were in the
experimental group post-test given after treatment to know the increase of students score;
meanwhile post-test in the control group was not given treatment. It saw from the students
average score of post-test in experimental group was 80. 20 and the students average score of
the post-test in control group was 60.10. The result of statistical analysis showed that the
value t- obtained was 5.420 at the significant level of p 0.05 (5%) in 2 tailed testing
degrees of freedom (df) was 38, and the critical value of t- table was 2.0243. since the value
of t- obtained was higher than the critical value of t-table, the null hypothesis (H o) was
rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It means that teaching English
vocabulary parts of body by using pictures to the seventh grade students of SMPN 2
Payaraman was effective than teaching english vocabulary parts of body through
conventional way.
