February 6, 2017 Teacher for the day

Today I went to the middle school and was suppose to be the teacher

for the day. It is a really interesting set up and there is only one class

period that I get to teach. The first period is a pre period for Mrs.

Anderson. We looked over some IEPs. There is a new student from

Rexburg that just moved here and is on an IEP. Mrs. Anderson feels like

her eligibility report and testing is good but the IEP needs to be

changed to fit more of how Rigby does the IEPs. Than I went to an

MDT meeting and it was good. I am getting use to going to meeting

once a week. I think it is a great way to collaborate with teachers and

build a stronger unity in the school. It is good to hear from all of the

members of the and what advice they have for a certain student.

Second hour we had some problems with a boy who has seizures. The

teachers know he has problems with seizures but they feel like he can

control them and bring them own when he is stressed. He does find in

the class except when asked to do work. When given an assignment he

doesnt like he usually has a seizure or acts out in some way. That was

really interesting. I think the students are getting use to me and

respecting me. We worked on vocabulary and talked about antonyms

and synonyms. The last two class periods of the day were study skills.

What happens is the students come and we check their grades. Than

we go over any homework that is missing. I was able to read a test to a

student today. It was history and to be honest, I didnt know any of it! I
also worked with another boy on writing an introduction paragraph on

livestock. I think he will build on the paper by working on different

parts of it individually. I really like Rigby and the students. I wish there

were more opportunities to teach.

40 minutes of class- go to the computer lab and do star testing

(Formal assessment to help with progress monitoring). If student

finishes and is waiting for others students, have them do online

learning activities. Mobey Mac

Daily work: The students will come in from the computer lab and will

be given a spelling test of 10 words.

All of the students have folders that contain their daily work. They will

work on Mondays assignment. With this assignment there are two

sentences that need to be corrected. Next on the assignment is adding

prefixes and suffixes to words. The next worksheet is an analogy

worksheet that they will fill out. It is the comparison of different things

to each other. We will go over it as a class when everyone is finished. I

will invite the students up to the board to help correct the sentences.

Reflection of Lesson:
The star testing was really good for the students. They took their time

and tried their best. It took longer than 40 minutes in the computer lab

for all of the students to finish their testing. We didnt have much time

in the classroom after using the computers. In the classroom the

spelling test was administered. Two of the students were able to pass

all of the words that day. I gave the students about 10 minutes to do

their daily work. We started going over the sentences but ran out of

time. I think one of the things I could improve on is being firmer when I

ask the students to do something. I think they respect me and feel that

I care about them. However, I feel like one of my weaknesses is that I

am not firm when I ask the students to do something. I need to work

on my Alpha Commands of being polite but firm when I ask the

students to do an assignment for class.

Overall I dont really feel like I teach. Everyday is the normal

routine and sometimes I wonder if the students are learning anything.

They have a respect for Mrs. Anderson and they are improving on their

star testing which is good.
