Learning Purposes:
-Explore how their place may be connected to other places (ACHASSK050)
- To compare and describe similarities and differences between two resources (photographs) of
the local community of a past and present image.
Focus: visual interpretation and differentiation
Students outcomes:
1. Will be able to look at and describe the resources shown.
2.Describe similarities and differences from today and past in the resources (photograph)
3.Verbally distinguish between present and past resources shown
Success Criteria:
I can identify 1 thing the same and 1 thing that is different on the photos
I can identify and explain the similarities and differences I found on the photos
I can identify more than 2 similarities and differences in the
Activity: Timing:
- Using texts such as photographs, newspapers, stories and maps learn 20-30 minutes
about the past in the local area.
- Children will interpret and discuss the photographs they are shown.
- Using a t-chart students will be asked to compare 2 resources given,
and scribe the similarities and differences
I DO:
Introduce class to the topic Hello everyone today we will be looking at some
photos from past and present that is today. Your job is to pick out what is the
same and what is different on the photos. And then write them on the chart
under same and different (show example t-chart)
Q. Can anyone tell me what they know about past and present?
Before moving forward ask a student what their job is today?
Outline success criteria: I will be looking for 1 thing the same and 1 thing
different from everyone today but if you can find more thats even better.
- Students will be split into pairs and given a T-chart and coloured textas

Practice: 15 minutes
- Students will discuss and write down their observations
- I do: walk through the class and prompt the children by asking whats
different here compared to here?

- Student will then get the opportunity to present their findings to the 15-20 minutes
class, presented on big T-chart on the board and scribed by the teacher
- Discuss the finding and things that students learned
- Collect the T-charts for evaluation
Reinforce: And what did we learn today?
How to compare and make observations
Find different things from the past and present then and now

Learning Evaluation
- Can they compare the two photographs and describe 4- 6 similarities and differences
between the photographs in pairs
- Knowledge, participation, observation, verbal skills

Learning Purposes:

-To compare and describe similarities and differences between two photographs

- practice listening and viewing skills
Preparation and Resources:
- Have photographs and printed 1 set between 2 and large photographs on
smart board or printed large on a board. Photographs are one of the past
and one of today
- Have T-chart prepared on a board or large sheet of paper
- Different coloured pens
Activity:
- Using a t-chart present 2 photographs of past and present of the local
area. Using the available medium (e.g. smart board, whiteboard,
hardcopy) present the photographs to the students and explain the
activity.
- Bring children down to the front of the classroom and have them sitting in
a group to listen to the activity explanation.
- Today we are going to be learning about the past and present, can
anybody tell me what that is?
- Yes great answer, its right now and a long time ago etc.
- To do that we are going to look at two photos and try and find whats the
same and what is different.
- I do: point out one to start with and explain the similarities and the
differences. Then explain that following the explanation of the activity we
will split into pair with or own t-chart and scribe what similarities and
differences they can find.
- Ask a student if they can repeat the instructions.

Evaluation:
- Students grasp the concept of past and present
- Are able to repeat the instructions
- Able to sit quietly while instructions are given
