Praxair Starblend Mixing System

Maintaining gas mixture integrity with

high-pressure cylinders is the key to
achieving high-quality welds. Thats why
we developed the patented Praxair
Starblend mixing system for two, three
and four-part argon-based blends con-
taining carbon dioxide. It provides
industry-leading mixture consistency
from cylinder to cylinder.

From full to empty, Praxairs Starblend

mixing system helps to ensure that your
shielding gas blends are thoroughly
mixed. Cylinders filled using this tech-
nology deliver consistent mixture
integrity from start to finish, which:
Lowers residual cylinder losses
Ends premature cylinder
changeouts
Helps eliminate costly rework

than argon and settles at the bottom of
the cylinder. Inconsistent mixing in the
cylinder is a common result.
Praxair Starblend Filling Procedure
The Praxair Starblend mixing system
was developed specifically for argon/
carbon dioxide mixtures. It consists of
a specially designed eductor or dip
tube with strategically placed openings
along its length. This creates turbulence
in the cylinder during filling and pro-
motes superior gas mixing, while pro-
ducing a homogeneous blend without
the need to roll the cylinder.

In addition to providing uniform mixing,

the patented eductor tube design per-
mits withdrawal of the mixture from var-
ious locations within the cylinder. This
Praxair design feature ensures a consis-
tent mix from the time the valve is ini-
tially opened to cylinder change-out.

and Blends
Praxairs LaserStar gases are available
as pure gases or as pre-blended mix-
tures of helium, nitrogen, carbon diox-
ide, and carbon monoxide. All are used
as component parts in resonator gases
to generate the laser beam in a wide
variety of CO2 lasers. Praxairs
LaserStar gases are produced to meet
the stringent requirements of the laser
processing industry. With a properly
designed delivery system, the use of
LaserStar gases helps assure optimum
laser performance, maximum operating
duty cycle, and minimum maintenance
costs.

Where needed, Praxair can provide

assist gases typically oxygen or nitro-
gen for cutting applications, and argon
or helium for welding applications of 3
the proper purity and with the required
pressure and flow rates, to optimize
the performance of laser cutting and
welding systems.

tions. Excellent weld metal mechanical
properties (especially fatigue strength)
are produced in a wide variety of steels.
Used in spray transfer, RoboStar CS
provides high deposition rates,
improved deposition efficiency and
higher travel speeds than comparable
two-part argon-based gas blends. 3
Principal Applications
Praxair RoboStar CS shielding gas
blend is used for joining a wide range of
carbon and low alloy steel compositions
and thickness where fixed automation
or robotics are employed. Steel building
components, automotive assemblies,
rail car structures, earth-moving equip-
ment, transmission poles and pressure
vessels are typical applications.
RoboStarTMCS has proven to be very
successful when welding over gaps or
in areas with poor joint fit-up. Good
welding practice dictates that welding
quality and cost can be reduced with
improved base metal fit-up, but when
this is not possible, RoboStarTMCS is a
good selection.
