Experiences to Choose From:

Bowling

We will be bowling at Sunset Lanes in Dickeyville, WI. You will learn proper
technique, and bowling etiquette. We will be bowling 2-3 games. You will need
socks and will be expected to change into bowling shoes. Hopefully you
find that Bowling can be fun in your SPARE time.

Biking

Explore the Upper Midwest's most scenic all-season trail. Follow the 26 mile route
of a once bustling railroad into a 450 foot deep valley past old mining and mill
towns. Discover the rugged beauty that welcomes thousands of bicyclists and
hikers each year. Our PE Experience will include biking along the Heritage Trail
beginning at the Heritage Pond, enjoying the rich natural resources and natural
beauty that have attracted people to this region for thousands of years. Let the
biking begin!

***Students are required to wear proper outdoor attire; shoes that may get muddy,
layers of light weight clothing, sunglasses, bike helmet (provided), sunscreen, bug
spray and water bottle. Please no flip flops as it is difficult to ride a bike while
wearing them.***

Service Learning

Have you ever seen someone that physically cannot help themselves such as an
elderly or disabled person? In this PE experience, you will help people in the
community with work they cannot do themselves including but not limited to yard
work and household cleanup. We will also help clean public areas such as parks and
walkways. This will be a physically demanding and rewarding experience.

Disc Golf

Students will be traveling to Vets Memorial where there is a disk golf course. The
course should take us about an hour to complete. When we are finished golfing we
will also be able to play a game of ultimate Frisbee. I have plenty of disks for all
students to use during the activity. While playing disk golf we will be learning how
to keep score and the rules. Our community has two courses that are free to use
this is a great way to get out and get some exercise.

Hiking

Students will have the opportunity to explore Dubuque's beautiful outdoors. We will
travel to E.B. Lyons, Swiss Valley and Little Maquoekta River Mounds Preserve to
hike wilderness trails. I will guide students through trails while sharing some of the
local history that makes Dubuque unique. Students are required to wear proper
outdoor attire; shoes that may get muddy, layers of light weight clothing,
sunglasses/hat, sunscreen, bug spray and water bottle. Please no flip flops.
Let the exploring begin!

Gym Sports
This is your chance to get in touch with your inner Lebron James. For this
experience we will travel to Courtside to participate in both court sports as well as
functional training to get our heart rates up. So if youre ready to sweat a little, get
your heart rate up and be competitive this P.E. experience is for you!

Fishing

Learn how to rig your fishing pole to catch that big one! In the fishing PE
experience, you will learn to tie fishing knots, bait your hook or set up an artificial
lure, and safely remove the hook from all of the fish you will be catching. We will
rotate where we fish; locations will include the Mississippi River, Bergfeld Pond,
Heritage Pond, or wherever else theyre biting. We can ALMOST GUARANTEE that
you will catch fish!

Canoeing

Canoeing is one of the oldest means of transportation in our history. It helped

humans discover new areas and places. It was a vital part of the development of
Dubuque, and the Mississippi river. Our PE adventure is discovering how to paddle
and use the canoe just as our early settlers did on the Mississippi.

Maquoketa Caves (full day activity)

Explore one of Iowas most unique state parks during this PE experience. This
experience offers the opportunity to explore caves, limestone formations, and
rugged bluffs. Grab your flash light and ignore your claustrophobia as you crawl
through mud, dodge bats, in order to peer at unusual stalactites and other rare cave
formations. If you are not a deep cave explorer enjoy a casual walk through large
well-lit caves or splash around in a beautiful creek by a waterfall. Gander at
beautiful spring flowers and maybe find a few morels peeking up if it ever warms
up. We will have a nice spring picnic for lunch and wrap up our day at the
Interpretive Center. The interpretive center offers detailed information about the
geology of cave formations, park history, and a background of early inhabitants of
the park. It also offers a working honey bee hive, birds of prey and live education
animals.

CPR
All students in the State of Iowa are required to be certified in CPR in order to
graduate from high school. If you have not already been certified, you should sign
up for CPR and take advantage of this opportunity to complete this requirement.
CPR training will take place at the ALC.
