Witnessing Workshop- Biblical Basis Principles

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I
am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28 v 19

To go doesnt just mean to take off and go somewhere to witness but the word involves as you are
going. This is the way real outreach takes place. We need to converse with those that we come into
contact with and learn the art of turning conversations towards eternal things.
The Lord promises to be with us always in this task. We do not need to fear. He is with us so He will
open the doors of opportunities and give us the words we need.

No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, John 6 v 44a

We cannot convince anyone of anything for it the Lord that opens eyes and ears, we are to pray for the
Lord to open their eyes, to enable the words we say to be used by Him in their minds.

This verse below is jam packed with all that is needed for evangelism!! Firstly it focuses on the
need for prayer, prayer, prayer. The prayer is for God to open the doors, that the message we share is
about Christ and clear, making the most of opportunities through conversation that are FULL of grace
(kind and gentle) and seasoned with salt (people will want to talk with you more). Many many times
people say to me that they love real and hate fake and phony.

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a
door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray
that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the
most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that
you may know how to answer everyone. Colossians 4 v 2-6

Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known
the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it
fearlessly, as I should. Ephesians 6 v 19-20 (Paul also needed courage and asked for prayer for it)

Prayer is not just about having a prayer meeting or asking God to do things. I would communicate with
the Lord in a conversation that would be ongoing in my mind throughout the whole day. The Lord
would therefore lead me in my thoughts about praying for an opening, which countless times He would
then give. Sometimes it would be to see the potential in a situation or conversation or a creative idea to
open a heart to hear the good news.

When we really believe in the sovereignty of God we see that situations and difficulties can be all used
by Him. This gives great purpose and joy to everything. When you have an eternal perspective you
will look at many things differently. Paul knew this for He shows us that because of an illness he was
able to share the gospel and because of imprisonment that guards came to Christ for they were stuck
with a preacher who wasnt wallowing but thinking Oh Great! I have a captive audience, these
guards are chained to me and I can tell them about the difference Jesus makes. This is why Paul writes
at the end of Philippians 4 v 22 that the Lords from Caesars household send their greeting. There are
those saved in Caesars very household because of Pauls witness in the place.

As you know, it was because of an illness that I first preached the gospel to you Galatians 4 v 13

Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually served to
advance the gospel. As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to
everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. Philippians 1 v 12-13

All Gods people here send you greetings, especially those who belong to Caesars household.
Philippians 4 v 22

Be very careful, then, how you live - not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity,
because the days are evil. Ephesians 5 v 15-16

When you knock on someones door, it must be driven by nothing other than love. This verse below
shows that we are to live for others and not ourselves. When surrendering ones life to the Lords
service to the Lost, we put aside our own time, goals etc as we live for the needs of others. So when
you knock and you say, I care about you. Do you have any needs? We as a church want to help you or
pray for you, then be prepared to follow those words with the action needed. This will become a time
commitment.

Not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. Philippians 2 v 4
