LanguageMachineTranslationSystem(ILMT)

"TheinstituteinvitesanExpressionofInterest(EOI)forthebelowlistedLanguage
TechnologyresourcesdevelopedattheLanguageTechnologiesResearchCenter
(LTRC),IIITHyderabadasapartoftheIndianLanguagesMachineTranslation
(ILMT)consortiumsponsoredundertheTechnologyDevelopmentforIndian
Languages(TDIL)ProgrammeinitiatedbytheDepartmentofElectronics&
InformationTechnology(DeitY),MinistryofCommunication&Information
Technology(MC&IT),Govt.ofIndia(GoI).

TheEOIshouldbeintheformatgiveninANNEXA.Thecompanies/startupstobe
grantedlicensetoutilizethetransferredtechnologyonanasisbasiswillbe
shortlistedbasedontheinformationfurnishedpertherequirementsasstatedin
theAnnexures/Form,thesupportingdocumentswiththeapplicationand
assessmentbytheinstitutecommittee.

ThesubmissionoftheEOIshallincludeallsuchdocumentsthatarespecified
hereinandapplicabletoprovetheauthenticityoftheentityandanyclaimmade
therein.Theburdenofprovingsuchclaimsshallliewiththebidder.

AnycostandexpensesassociatedwithsubmissionofEOI,asmaybeapplicable
shallbebornebythecompanywhilesubmittingtheEOIandtheInstituteshall
havenoliability,inanymannerinthisregard,orifitdecidestoterminatethe
processofshortlistingforanyreasonwhatsoever.

forprofitpublicprivatepartnership(NPPP)andisthefirstIIITtobesetup

underthismodelinIndia.TheGovernmentofAndhraPradeshlentsupport

totheinstitutebygrantoflandandbuildings.AGoverningCouncil
consistingofeminentpeoplefromacademia,industryandgovernment
presidesoverthegovernanceoftheinstitution.

IIITHwassetupasaresearchuniversityfocusedonthecoreareasof
InformationTechnology,suchasComputerScience,Electronicsand
Communications,andtheirapplicationsinotherdomains.Theinstituteevolved
strongresearchprogrammesinahostofareas,withcomputationorITproviding
theconnectingthread,andwithanemphasisonthedevelopmentoftechnology
andapplications,whichcanbetransferredforusetoindustryandsociety.This
requiredcarryingoutbasicresearchthatcanbeusedtosolvereallifeproblems.
Asaresult,asynergisticrelationshiphascometoexistattheInstitutebetween
basicandappliedresearch.Facultycarriesoutanumberofacademicindustrial
projects,andafewcompanieshavebeenincubatedbasedontheresearchdone
attheInstitute.

OurdecadelongworkatIIITHhasshownhowanacademicinstitutecanbuild
largeresearchgroupstocarryoutcuttingedgeresearch,anduseittosolvereal
lifeindustrialandsocietalproblems.

IIITHisorganizedasresearchcentresandlabs,insteadoftheconventional
departments,tofacilitateinterdisciplinaryresearchandaseamlessflowof
knowledgewithintheInstitute.Facultyassignedtothecentersandlabsconduct
research,aswellasacademicprograms,whichareownedbytheInstitute,and
notbyindividualresearchcenters.

Researchcentre:TheLanguageTechnologiesResearchCentre(LTRC)
addressesthecomplexproblemofunderstandingandprocessingnatural
languagesinbothspeechandtextmodes.

LTRCconductsresearchonbothbasicandappliedaspectsoflanguage
technology.

Itisthelargestacademiccentreofspeechandlanguagetechnologyin
India.

LTRCcarriesoutitsworkthroughfourlabs,whichworkinsynergywith
eachother.

LTRCisalsoaleadparticipantinnationwidemissionmodeconsortiaprojectsto
developdeployabletechnologyintheareasofIndianLanguageMachine
Translation,EnglishtoIndianLanguageMachineTranslation,andCross
LanguageInformationAccess(searchengines).

NLPMTLab

TheNLPMTlabdoesfundamentalworkondevelopinggrammaticalaswell
statisticalmodellingoflanguages.Linguisticapproachesarecombinedwith
machinelearningtechniquesleadingtonewtheoriesandtechnology
development.Thishasresultedinhigheraccuracypartsofspeechtaggers,
chunkers,constraintbasedparsersaswellasbroadcoveragestatisticalparsers,
andsemanticanalyzersforIndianlanguagesontheonehand,andannotateddata
includingdependencytreebanks,discoursebanks,parallelcorpora,etc.onthe
other.

AnusaarakaLab

Anusaarakalabisconcernedwiththedevelopmentofmachinetranslation
systemswhichinadditiontotheusualmachinetranslationoutputalsoallowsa
usertounderstandthesourcelanguagetextinapseudotargetlanguage.For
example,areaderwhoknowsHindi(targetlanguage)wouldbeabletoreadthe
Englishsourcetext,inapseudoHindioutputafterasmallamountoftraining.

SearchandInformationExtractionLab(SIEL)

TheLabfocusesonsolvingresearchproblemsintheareasofInformation
RetrievalandExtractionusingNLPtechniques.SIELisengagedinbuilding
technologiesforpersonalized,customizableandhighlyrelevantinformation
retrieval(IR),InformationExtraction(IE)andInformationAccess(IA)systems.
Currentresearchincludessummarization,crosslanguageinformationaccess
systemsandbuildingsemanticsearchenginesbyidentifyingentitiesandrelations
betweentheseentities.

Speechlab

Theresearchfocusofthespeechgroupistoaddressissuesinprocessing,
analyzing,understandingandmanipulationofrealspeechi.e.,read,
conversational,emotionalasfoundinrealenvironmentsforthedevelopmentof
robustspeechsystemsinmultiplelanguagesspecificallyinthecontextofIndia.
Thespeechgroupisalsofocusedondevelopmentofspeechrecognition,speech
synthesis,prosodymodels,spokenaudiosearch,phoneticengineforIndian
languages,languageidentification,speakerrecognitionforbiometrics,voice
conversion,speechsummarizationandspokendialogsystems.

2.1IndianLanguagetoIndianLanguageMachinetranslationsystems:Inthe
project,18MTsystemsbetweennineIndianlanguagesweredeveloped.Allthe18
systemsaredeployedatIIITHsserverforinternalaccess.Eightofthesystems
PunjabiHindi,HindiPunjabi,UrduHindi,MarathiHindi,TeluguHindi,TamilHindi,
TamilTelugu,andTeluguTamilarenowavailableandmaybeaccessedat
http://sampark.org.in.

TheIndianlanguagetoIndianlanguagemachinetranslationsystemsarebased
onhybridanalysetransfergenerateparadigm.First,analysisofthesource
languageisdone,thenatransferoflexicalandgrammaticalstructurefromthe
sourcelanguagetothetargetlanguageiscarriedout,andfinallythetarget
languageisgenerated.Thelargertaskofsystembuildingwassubdividedinto
smallertasks.Languageindependentsoftwareengineswerebuiltcommonly(as
horizontals)andwereusedbythedifferentlanguagegroupsfortheirlanguageby
supplyingdata,resultinginmajorsavingsineffortandhighersoftwarequality.
Eachparticipatinginstitutetookuponeormoretasks.Thus,itwaspossibleto
developMTsystemsforseverallanguagepairsinparallelbydevelopingcommon
technologiesandsharingtasks.

formats,whereverspecifiedmaybeconsiderednonresponsiveandmay
