(Powers:to erect New Gasworks, and Purchase
' existing Gasworks, and extend the same; to
Manufacture and supply Gas; to construct
Waterworks and supply Water; to supply
Local Boards; to Purchase Lands, Levy Rates,
Borrow Money; Repeal and Amendment of
Acts.)
OTICE is hereby given, that application is
intended to be made to Parliament in the
ensuing session by the Local Board for the district
of Ashton-in:Makerfield, in the county of Lan-
caster (hereinafter called the Local Board), for an
Act for all or some of the following, among other
purposes (that is to say) :
To confer upon the Local Board all needful
pow.ers for lighting with gas their district of
Ashton-in-Makerfield, and the township of Hay-
dock, bdth in the parish of Winwick, in the county
of Lancaster, or some part or parts thereof
respectively.
To vest in or provide for the vesting in the
Local 'Board, and to enable them' to purchase by
' agreement or compulsorily, and the Asbton-in-
Makerfield Has Consumers1 Company (Limited) to
sell for such consideration and upon such terras
and conditions as shall be named in the Bill, or
settled by agreement or arbitration, the lands,
cottages, buildings, works, pipes, machinery,
apparatus, rights, privileges, easements, property,
effects, and undertaking of or belonging to or held
or possessed by or on behalf of that Company, and
to confirm in whole or in part, or, if necessary, to
alter or vary any agreement already or hereafter
to be entered into between that Company and the
Local Board for that purpose, and to wind up the
affairs of and dissolve the Company.
To enable the Local Board -to sell the said lands,
or to pull down, remove, and dispose of the said
works, cottages, buildings, apparatus, and ma-
chinery, or to maintain the same, or to alter,
enlarge, and improve the same, and to erect on
the said lands or any part thereof, and upon any
lands which may be acquired by them under the
powers of the Bill, additional or other works and
conveniences for the manufacturing and storing of,
and to manufacture and store gas, and any residual
products arising or resulting from the manufacture
of gas, and to sell and dispose of gas, coke, coal
tar, ammoniacal liquor, and other residual and
'manufactured products, matters, and things, and
to supply gas for public and private purposes
within the limits prescribed by the Bill.
The lands to be held and used for the manu-.
facture of gas, and for gasworks, and for the
manufacture and sale of any residual products
arising from the manufacture, of gas, or of the
materials used therein, are the following (that is
to say):
(1.) Lands of the said Company, namely, a piece
of land situate at or near Dobbs-court, in the
town and district of Ashton-in-Makerfield
aforesaid, whereon the gasworks and seven
cottages of the said Company have been
erected and aro now standing, bounded on the
north and east sides by the brook known as
Millingford Brook, and on the south side in
part by Dobbs-court, and on other part by the
public footpath leading from Dobbs-court to
the Millstone Inn, Ashton Heath, in the same
. township, and on the west side in part by the
fileworks belonging or reputed to belong to
and in the occupation of John Lowe, and on
other part by a cottage belonging or reputed
to belong to the said Jphn Lowe, and in the
occupation of Peter Cottam.
To empower the Local Board to supply gas by
agreement to persons outside their prescribed limits
of supply.
To authorise the Local Board to acquire and
hold licenses of patent rights, and to carry on the
business usually carried on by gas companies or
which is or hereafter may be incident thereto.
To enable the Local Board to supply with water
for public, sanitary, private, trade, and manu-
facturing purposes their district.
To enable the Local Board to make and main-
tain the waterworks and other works and con-
veniences following, or some of them, that is
to say:
No. 1. A storage reservoir with a tank or
service reservoir, wholly in the township of
Ashton-in-Makerfield, in the parish of Winwick,
in the county of Lancaster, to be constructed in
and upon certain lands belonging to Sir Robert
Tolver Gerard, Baronet, 'and in the respective
occupations of James Wilcock, Richard Brad burn,
and Abraham Latham,- and situate about 400
yards measured in a north-easterly direction from
the junction of Leyland Green and Gladden Hey
Brow Roads, in the same township.
No. 2. A reservoir wholly in the said township
of Ashton-in-Makerfield, to be constructed in
and upon certain lauds of the said Sir Robert
Tolver Gerard, Baronet, occupied by Richard
Bradburn, situate on the brook known as the
Down Brook, in the same township, abutting upon
and on the westerly side of the said Gladden Hey
Brow Road, where the brook runs under the same
road.
No. 3. A reservoir wholly in the said township
of Ashton-in-Makerfield, to be constructed on
lands of the said Sir Robert Tolver Gerard,
Baronet, on the site of the existing reservoir or
dam called Dowriall Green Dam, and on lands
adjoining belonging to the said Sir Robert Tolver
Gerard, Baronet, and in the respective occupations
of TBomas Crompton, the Reverend William James
Melville, and John Pilling.
No. 4. .A reservoir wholly in the said township
of Ashton-in-Makerfield, to be constructed on lands
of the said Sir Robert Tolver Gerard, Baronet,
in the occupation of William Yates, abutting upon
and on the westerly side of the bridge in the
occupation road leading from Ashton Heath to
ands in the occupation of the said William Yates
and others.
No. 5. A reservoir wholly in the said township
of Ashton-in-Makerfield, to be constructed in and
upon lands belonging to the said Sir Robert Tolver
jerard, Baronet, in the occupation of Joseph Kay,
situate 400 yards or thereabouts measured in a
westerly direction from the junction of the .high-
ways from Billinge, in the said county of Lan-
