Group Presentation (A group of 3 students, 20-25 minutes duration)

Title:
An in depth exploration of the important concepts in Leadership and Management

Instructions:
Choose one (1) of the following questions as the topic to be discussed in the presentation.
Presentation will take place during the class sessions on 27th October 2015 (Tuesday).

Students will present according to this flow of structure:

- Title of the topic and your name on the first slide
- Session aim/s
- Introduction (must include the rationale for choosing the topic)
- Answer the questions
- Summary / conclusion

Question 1
Miss M is a nurse in charge of the Medical ward. She always wants the staff to follow her order.
She takes the full authority on the staff and does not listen to them for any suggestions.
a) Explain the leadership style that has been practiced by Miss M.
b) Explain the advantages and disadvantages of this leadership style.
a) Discuss what types of leadership style you would prefer to manage your staff. Identify some
examples of situations.

Question 2
Communication is very important skills needed in managing a ward. Communication breakdown
occurs due to many reasons.
b) Explain the formal and informal channels of communications in a ward. Identify some
examples of situations.
c) Explain the factors that cause communication breakdown in ward.
d) Discuss how you make the communication more effective in the ward.
 Question 3
As a nurse in charge, using critical thinking in daily work is utmost important. Decision making
which is involved in problem solving is required when the needs arise.
a) Explain how you use critical thinking to solve staffing issues. Identify some examples of
situations.
b) Discuss the steps involved in problem solving.
c) Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the problem solving methods.

Guidelines:

Presentation format: Many students elect to use PowerPoint. This is not absolutely required, but
provision of some visual aids is helpful.
All members of the group must take an equal role in the presentation.

Prepare three possible questions with which to lead a class discussion.

Submission is via soft and hardcopy. 2 copies of presentation handout must be submitted
to assessors before you start the presentation.
Academic misconduct (e.g. plagiarism, collusion) is a serious offence therefore work must be
original and supported by references to scholarly materials.
Using APA 6th ed. referencing system, references cited in the body of the text must match those
in the end reference list.
