gettingsupportfromthePhilippineCenterforEntrepreneurship(PCE)andGoNegosyo,alocalnetworkofentrepreneursandentrepreneurship
advocatesheadedbybusinessmanJoeyConception.

GoNegosyowillbeprovidingcontentfortheeAssistsegmentofTech4EDwhichwillprimarilytacklebusinessliteracy,investments,franchising
andothermaterialsusefulforpotentialentrepreneurs.Throughthispartnership,thesecontentwillnowbeincludedintheTech4EDplatform,under
theeAssistsegment.

TheTechnologyforEconomicDevelopment(Tech4ED)ProjectenvisionsTech4EDCentersineverybarangayinthePhilippines.Originallyaiming
tostrengthentheexistingCommunityeCentersinthecountry,theprojectutilizesitsnetworkfrombothgovernmentandnongovernmentagenciesto
aggregatecontenttooffermoreopportunitiesforinclusivegrowth.

ThevisionofaunitedASEANCommunitywasputforwardbytheleadersofthetenASEANnationsin1997.TheydreamedofthewholeASEAN
regionaspartnersindevelopment,togetherinpeace,stability,andprosperity.Overthepastyear,withtheDecember31,2015targetforthecreation
oftheASEANCommunitylooming,muchhasbeensaidaboutthisongoingASEANintegration,especiallytheestablishmentoftheASEAN
EconomicCommunity(AEC),oneofitsthreepillars.

TheAECaimstointegratethetendiverseeconomiesofSoutheastAsia,aregionof625millionpeople,makingup9%oftheworldspopulation,
andwhich,takenasone,wouldbethe7thlargesteconomyintheworld.ThecommitmentsmadebytheASEANcountriestowardstheAECwillnot
allbecompletedbyend2015,whichwastheagreedtargetfortheimplementation,butmostofthenationsareatabove95%completion.

ThiseconomicintegrationwillbebuiltonthecreationofanASEANregionthatisasinglemarketandproductionbase,increasinglycompetitive,
whichupholdsequitableeconomicdevelopment,andisintegratedintotheglobaleconomy.Thesemayseemfarremovedfromthedaytoday
operationsofbusinesses,especiallysmallandmediumenterprises,butasthegrowingnumberofASEANseminars,forums,andconferencesshow,
moreandmoresmallandmediumenterprises(SMEs)aresittingupandtakingnotice.Entrepreneursandbusinessownersarefindingoutthemany
opportunitiestheregionalintegrationcanbring,whilealsowaryofthepotentialcompetitionfromotherASEANfirms.Whatsmore,manyofthem
realizethattheyneedtoprepareandtakethenecessarystepstobeabletoparticipateintheAEC,orriskbeingleftbehind.

Thequestionformanyentrepreneurs,aftertheyacquaintthemselveswiththebasicsoftheAEC,canbeasbasicasOkay,nowwhat?Whilethey
understandthattheAECcouldimpacttheirstrategiesforgrowingtheirbusiness,itsnotalwayseasytostart,especiallyiftheyveneverdone
businessoutsidetheirhomecountry.HowcanPhilippineSMEstakeadvantageofthetradeandinvestmentopportunitiesfromtheregional
integration?
