Benchmark goals

M:

Given direct instruction in how to identify the 4 syllable patterns (vc/cv, v/cv, vc/v, and v/v) and the 7 syllable
types (closed, open, magic-"e", vowel teams, r-controlled, diphthong, and consonant-le), Miles will apply his
knowledge of syllable types and patterns to decode words containing up to three syllables, with 80%
accuracy.

Given instruction in close reading, as well as sentence stems to assist him with his analysis, Miles will
analyze information stated explicitly (by identifying key words and explaining the meaning/importance of the
words) and make a logical inference using information from the text, in 80% of opportunities.

Given access to a graphic organizer with sentence stems, Miles will be able to produce (either written or
typed) a three paragraph informative and/or explanatory writing piece that includes a logical claim, one or
more pieces of text evidences, an explanation of how the evidence supports his claim, and a concluding
statement in 4 out of 5 opportunities.

I:

Given direct phonics instruction, Ibn will be able to decode words containing the following syllabication
patterns and syllable types: vc/v, v/v, diphthongs, consonant-le, as well as words containing suffixes and
prefixes, with up to four syllables, with 80% accuracy.

Given a specific passage from a text (up to five lines) Ibn will identify up to three keywords, analyze the word
choice (i.e. denotative/connotative meaning), and explain how the word choice expresses the author's point
of view, in 4 out of 5 attempts.

Given access to graphic organizers and sentence stems, Ibn will produce an informative/explanatory writing
piece that includes a claim statement, three pieces of relevant/sufficient evidence, an explanation of how the
evidence supports his claim, and a conclusion, in 4 out of 5 attempts.

After reading a selection at his reading level, Jayden will complete a graphic organizer and summarize the
key points and retell the story to an adult.

Given 3-5 short passages at his level, Jayden will complete and write the sentence " __________________
happened because ____________________" and verbalize to an adult what he thinks will happen next.

Given 3-5 sentences containing errors with tense, Jayden will rewrite the sentences with necessary
corrections, using the appropriate tense (past, present, future), and utilizing apostrophes where needed.

D:

Using graphic organizers DeBria will list the qualifications and duties of the Senate and House of
Represitives from Legislative Branch in 3 out of 4 trials.

Using graphic organizers DeBria will list the qualifications and duties of the President and Vice President
from the Executive Branch in 3 out of 4 trials.

Using graphics organizer DeBria will list the qualifications and duties of a Supreme Court judge from the
Judical Branch in 3 out of 4 trial

Using a tri-column graphic organizer, DeBria will listing the functions, the effect of diseases and how to keep
healthy lungs under each column in to organize her information before writing in trials

Using a tri-column graphic organizer, Debria will identify the parts of the human heart, what effects the heart
and ways to have a healthy heart in each column to organize information before wriing in trials

Using a graphic organizer, Debria will label a human cell and a plant cell before completing a comparing and
contrasting organizer on both cells before writing in trials.

J GL:

Given a wordless picture book and moderate assistance, Jaylen will develop a sequential narrative that
supports the pictures and tells the story with a clear beginning, middle and end.

After choosing a topic for a persuasive essay, Jaylen will develop an outline illustrating his position, then
write a 3 paragraph essay containing details including facts, examples and opinions.

After choosing a topic, Jaylen will develop a main idea, identify three sources for research and cite one
supporting detail from each source.
