Iamnotantidog,noramIadvocatingabusingorbeatingthem.

Oneoftherealitiesoflifehoweveristhatthereareoccasionswhendogsaackhumans.Thisvideo

twierrecently.

Iknowseveralpeoplewhohavebeenaackedbydogs,Ivebeenaackedbydogs

Unfortunatelytherearealotofpeoplewhobuydogsfortheexpresspurposeofmakingthemaggressive(thisisespeciallythecase
inlargercities),andwhothenignorethedogs,donotproperlyrestrainthem,orsimplyletthemgowhentheycannotaordtofeed
them.Thesadfactisthatdogghtingisstillwidelyprevalentinmanypartsofourcountry,andinsomeareasincreasingin
popularity(CaliforniasSanJoaquinValleyisoneofthelaer).

MostofthepeoplewhowillreadthiswillbeoftheIlljustshootthedoguntilitsdeadmentality.Irecommendthisfully,
howevertherearetimesthatitiseithernotpossible(youaresurprised,areapoliceocerinLondon,etc.),oritissimplynot
prudent(therearepeoplearoundwhomaybehitbygunre,whatever).Itisimportanttorememberthatifthedogmanagestobite
youandyouareabletoshootit,trynottoshootitinthehead(avetneedsanintactcraniumtotestforrabies,andantirabies
shotssuck).

WARNING:

InthispostIamgoingtodiscussviolentandgraphicmethodsofdeliveringmassivetraumatocanines.Itwasverydicultfor
metowritethispost,becauseIlovedogs.Ifyouaresqueamish,youmaynotwanttoreadanyfurther.Iwrotethispostbecause
dogaacksdohappen,andIcouldntndanyothergoodinformationonhowtodefendyourselfagainstthem.

TherearethreescenariosthatImgoingtoexamineinthispost;ghtingadogwithastickorotherimpactweapon,ghtingadog
withaknifeoredgedweapon,andghtingadogwithyourbarehands.IchoosethesethreescenariosbecauseIthinkthesearemost
likelytobehowpeoplewillbeghtingdogs,andbecauseIhavehadtoghtdogsusingallthreemethods(Imnotsurewhybut
therehavebeenveseparatetimeswhenIhavehadoccasiontoghtadog).Ithinkformostpeoplethisisascarythought,partly
becauseweveallseenwhatanaggressivedogcando,andpartlybecausemostpeopledontreallyknowanythingaboutthenuts
andboltsofhowtogoaboutghtingadog.Youcantjustthrowpunchesatitandwin.Youvegottounderstandhowtodisable
youropponent.Whenfacedwithanaggressivedogaackyouonlyhavetwooptions;immobilizeorincapacitatethedog.

Fightingadogwithastickorimpactweapon

Yourbasictacticswhenghtinghumanswithastickorimpactweaponaretobreakbones,orcausepain.Dogshaveamuchhigher
painthresholdthanyouraveragehuman,soyouwillprobablynotbeabletoendadogaackthroughuseofpain.Again;
immobilizeorincapacitateareouronlyoptions.

Therearebasicallytwowaysyoucanghtadogwithanimpactweapon:youcanaempttokeepthematdistancewithstrikesfrom
theimpactweapon,oryoucantrytogetthemtofocusontheimpactweaponandusehandtohandtacticstoinictdamagetothe
animal.Ifyoureusingashorterstickforexample,youmaywanttotrytogetthedogoccupiedwithtryingtobiteitsothatyoucan
avoidbeingbienyourselfwhilemaneuveringintopositiontoapplyachokehold.

Obviouslyyouwantsomethinglongandheavyifyouhaveyourchoiceofimpactweapons,buttheghtwillbewhatitis,notwhat
youwantittobe.Youhavetwoprimarytargetsonadogwithanimpactweapon:theheadandthelegs.

Headstrikeswilllikelybemoretodivertthedogfrombitingyou,ortomaneuverthedogintoapositionwhereyoucanbeerstrike
atitslegs.Strikingthedoginthemuzzleornosewillbeextremelypainfulforthedogandmayresultinthedogmovingbackand
awayfromthestrike,leavingtheforelegexposedforapowerfulstrike.

Yourprimarytargetshouldbethetwoslenderbonesofthefrontlegs,betweentheshouldersandfeet,markedaspoint7and9in
Figure3above.Thesearehighvaluetargetsastheyarerelativelythinandifbrokenwillcompletelyimmobilizethedog(theywill
stillbeabletobite,sobewary).Mostoften,thedogwillbecomingatyouheadon,makingstrikestotherearlegsaveryrisky
proposition,asitwillexposeyoutobitesfromthedog.Donotoverextendyourselftolandastrikeonarearleg.Rearlegsarelow
valuetargetsbecauseyoumuststriketheminveryspecicwaystobreakthemordislocatethejoints,andthelegbonesaremuch
thickerthantheforelegs.

Ifyourimpactweaponhasgreatheft(likeahammer,alargerock,orabaseballbat),youmaywanttotryforadecisiveheadstrike.
Bewaryofoverextendingyourselfwithacommiedstrikethough,asdogsaregenerallyverynimbleandamissedstrikeatthe
craniumcouldeasilyleadtoacounteraackfromthedogthatleavesyoubleedingorknocksyoutotheground.

Strikestotheribsorspinemaybeeective,butwillhavetobeextremelypowerfultocauseenoughinjurytoimmobilizeor
incapacitatethedog.

Fightingadogwithaknifeoredgedweapon

Humanshaveaninstinctiveandprimalfearofkniveswhenusedasweapons.Dogsdonot.Youarenotgoingtofrightenadogby
pullingaknifeonit.Ifyouarefacinganaggressivedogandhaveonlyaknifetodefendyourself,youhaveonlyoneobjective:
incapacitatethedogasquicklyaspossiblethroughdestroyingthedogsabilitytomove,breathe,orthroughmassivebloodloss.

Somethingtokeepinmindisthatdogsmusclesareextremelydense.Someofthetargetareasdiscussedherewillrequirequiteabit
offorcetoreacheectively,andthedogisnotgoingtositstillwhileyousawatit.

Whendefendingagainstthedogwithaknife,itishighlylikelythatyouwillbebien.Itisimperativethatyounotallowthedogto
bitethehandorarmthatyouareholdingtheknifein.Ifthedoggetsitsteethinthatarmitisverylikelythatyouaregoingtolose
theknife.

PointAinFigure4isatargetareaunderthejaw,andbetweenthebonesofthemandible.Thisisatargetofopportunity.Ifyoucan
thrustupintothemouthwithaknifehereitispossibletothenpushbackanddown,possiblyseveringseveralarteries,andpiercing
orseveringthewindpipe.Thiswillleadtorapidincapacitation.

PointBinFigure4isatargetjustforwardofthedogsspinalcolumnintheneck,preferablyathrustintothesideoftheneck,and
pullingthebladebacktowardsthefrontofthethroat,resultinginacompleteseveringofthetrachea,andseveralarteries.More
musculardogs(suchasthepitbull,roweiler,andshepards)willbemoreprotectedinthisarea,makingthisisverydiculttarget
toaackeectively.Ifyouarefacingadogthatisextremelymuscularinthisarea(seeFigure2foradepictionofhowcanine
muscleswrapthechestandneck),itisabeertactictothrustintothisareaasdeeply,rapidly,andasmanytimesasyoucan,
potentiallyseveringoneormorearteries.

PointCinFigure4istargetingamajorarteryclusterlocatedtoeithersideofthecaninespinejustaboutevenwiththeleadingedge
oftherearleg.Thisisathrustingtarget,oncetheknifeisplungedintothisarea,itshouldbeworkedbackandforthandsidetoside
asrapidlyandasviolentlyaspossible.Puncturinganyofthesearteries(orbeer,severingthem)willresultinrapidincapacitation
oftheanimal.

PointDinFigure4istargetingthemusculatureandligamentsoftheforelegs.Thisisatargetofopportunity,andifsuccessfully
usedcanleadtoimmobilizationofthedog.

PointEinFigure4istargetingthediaphragmandintestinalcavityofthedog.Athrustintothisareafromunderneathstartingjust
belowtheribcageandpushingorpullingbacktowardstherearlegswilllikelydisembowelthecanine,whilealsopossiblysevering
severalarteriesandmajorveins,ordamagingseveralvitalorgans.

PointFinFigure4istargetingthelargemusclegroupsandtendonsonthefrontofthehindlegs.Thisisatargetofopportunity,
successfullydeliveredpowerfulslashestotheseareascanimmobilizethedog,aswellaspotentiallyseveringmajorveins.

Successfullydeliveredpowerfulslashesorthrustspulledouttotherearcanimmobilizethedog,aswellaspotentiallysevering
majorveins.

YoucanseeinFigure5that(asisthecasewithhumans)dogshaveseveralarteriesthatrununderthejawandaroundtheskull.
Thesearteriesarerelativelyclosetothesurfaceofthetissue,andseveringanyofthemwillresultinrapidbloodloss.Thechestarea
ofmostdogsisveryheavilymuscled(asshowninFigure2above),andcanberatherdiculttopenetrateeectively.Ifyouhavea
largeheavyxedbladeknife,theareawherethearteriesconvergeinthechestmaybeaviabletarget,butshouldprobablybe
avoidedwithafoldingknife.

Thesearenottheonlytargetsavailable,butarethetargetsthataremostlikelytoresultinrapidincapacitation.

Fightingadogwithyourbarehands

Thisisasituationthatalmostguaranteesthatyouwillgetbit.Ivehadtoghttwodogswithmybarehands,andhavebeenbien
bothtimes.Itsalmostunavoidable.

Ifitisgoingtohappen,whynottrytominimizethedamage?Invirtuallyeverycase,anaackingdogwillbitetherstthingthat
comesnearitsmouth.

Insomecasesthiswillbeyourgroin(verybad),oryourabdomen(notgoodeither),butusuallythisisnotadogsrstchoicefor
aack.

Dogstendtoaackbyleapingintoyourchestwiththeirfrontpawsinanaempttopushyoudown,sofrequentlytherstthing
neartheirmouthisoneofyourhandsorarms(thereareplentyofvideosavailableontheinternetwhereyoucanseethisbehavior.
Policedogsaretrainedspecicallytoaacklikethis,inlargepartbecausethisisanaturalaackforadogagainstatalleropponent).

Ifyoucangetapieceofclothinginthedogsmouthratherthanapieceofyourbody,great!Doit!Ifyouhaveafewmoments

Ifyoucangetapieceofclothinginthedogsmouthratherthanapieceofyourbody,great!Doit!Ifyouhaveafewmoments
warningthatthedogisgoingtoaackyou,wrapwhateveryouhavearoundyourweakforearm(jacket,sweater,teeshirt,
anythinghelps),andletthedogbitethatratherthananunprotectedlimb.

Ifyouhavethegumptiontofollowthroughwithitjamyourhandinitsmouthandeithergrabitstonguewithadeathgrip,ortryas
hardasyoucantoshoveyourstdownitsthroat.

In2005a73yearoldmaninNairobikilledanaackingLeopardbypullingitstongueout.Dogswillnotbitedownifyouhavehold
oftheirtongueforfearofseveringtheirowntongue.IfyouaregoingtotrythisIhighlyrecommendthatyouusetheotherhandto
controlthedogsheadsothatitcannotshakeyouo.

Rememberthatexceptinveryrarecases,youarelargerthanthedog(ifyoureghtinganaggressivedogthatisbiggerthanyouare,
youdbeergiveiteverythingyouvegotbecauseyoureinserioustrouble).Useyoursizetoyouradvantage.Ifyoucanmanageto
mountthedogandstayontopofit,itisquitelikelythatyoucanholdthedogdownuntilhelpcanbecalled,oryoucangureout
howtoincapacitatethedog.

Unlessyouarethefastesthumanontheplanet,youarenotgoingtobeabletooutrunthedog,sodonteventry.Youdonotwantan
aggressivedogfallingonyoufrombehind.Thebestthingyoucandoitistofacethedogsquarely,donotlookitdirectlyintheeye
(ifyouarewearingsunglassestakethemo,asdogsseethemasbig,staring,unblinkingeyesthatarelookingrightatthem),which
isasignthatyouarechallengingthedog.

Yellatthedog,waveyourarms,butdonotbackaway.Ifyouretreat,orshowfearthedogwillaackyou.Ifyoustandyour
ground,anddonotdirectlychallengethedogbyadvancingonit,orretreatingitmaydecidethatitdoesnotwanttoaackyou.

Ifyouarewearingabeltyoucanuseasaweapon,doso!Beltshaveseveralcombatuses;youcanwhipthedogwiththebuckleend,
useitasanimprovisedgarroteormuzzle,andinthecaseofthickleatherbeltsyoucanjamitintothedogsmouthsideways(youll
needtojamitallthewaybacktothemandibularjointforthistobemorethanaverytemporaryrestraint)whichcaneectively
preventthedogfrombitingyou.

Youcanuseashirtorjacketasanimprovisedmuzzle,ifyoucangetitoverthedogshead.Anythingthatyoucanusetogive
yourselfanedgewillhelp.Ifyouhavenothinganditsmanoacanis,youmustincapacitatethedogasrapidlyaspossible.

Dogsnosesareextremelysensitive,andeasytodamagebecausetheyareverysofttissue.Anyblowtoadogsnoseisgoingtobe
verypainfulandmaycausethedogtopullawayfromyou.Usethistoyouradvantage.

Ifthedogjumpsatyouandyoucanmanagetogetyourhandsonitsforelegs,jerkthemstraightouttothesidesashardasyoucan.
Dogsforelegsdonotnaturallybendthiswayandyoucaneasilybreakthelegsorseparatejointseectivelyimmobilizingthedog.

Ifyoucanmanagetogetyourhandontopofitsmuzzleandnotgetbit,youcanclampthedogsmouthshutandpinittoitschest
whichisalsoaneectivewaytopreventbites.

Illreiterate,youarebiggerthanthedog;pickthedogupandslamitintotheground(orwalloracar),orthrowitoverafence(Ive
actuallydonethis).

Keepinmindthatdogsgenerallyhavemuchlooserskinthanhumans.Youcanusethisinthesamewayyouwoulduseloseclothing
onahumanaacker,todirecttheirmotion,orasahandholdforapplyingleverage.

Dogsaresusceptibletojointlocksandchokesjustashumansare(thoughinthecaseofajointlock,youllprobablywanttogoahead
andbreakthejointsoyoudontgetbittoomuchwhiletryingtoholdthejointlock).Arearnakedchokeworksjustaswellona
pitbullasitdoesonahuman,withthebenetthatthedogcannotuseitshandstotrytobreakthechoke(Ichokedoutapitbullonce,
ittookalotlongerthanitdoesforahumanbutitworks).

Aggressionisyourfriend.Ifyoumanagetobackthedogo,oritturnstorun,chaseitwhilescreaminglikeamadman.Youwantto
drivethefactthatyouaredangerousandwillhurtthedogintoitsprimitivebrain.Dogsthatturntorunmayonlytravelashort
distancetoregroupbeforebringingtheghtrightbacktoyou.Donotassumethatthedogisinfullretreat.

Ifyoumanagetodrivethedogo,leavetheareaandseekshelterimmediately.Youcannotbesurethatitwillnotreturn.

Ifadogisaackingsomeoneelse;runupbehindit,grabitsrearlegsliftingthemotheground,andpullthemapartliketheywere
awishbone.Thisdestroysthestabilityofthedogsaackplatform(ifyourestrongenoughitcanalsodislocatethehipjointsor
breakthelegs,immobilizingthedog),andmakesitnearlyimpossibleforthedogtobitethepersonitwasaacking.Beaware
thoughthatifthedogissmart(orlucky)itmayrolloverontoitssideandtrytobiteyou.

Similarly,ifyougetthedogsrearlegsupintheairandnoticethatitisamaledog,kickthosetesticleslikeyouaretryingtoseta
recordforthelongesteldgoalinhistory.Isawthisdonetoapitbullthathadlockeditsjawsonanotherdog,andthekicktookthe

Stonesaregoodtoo!!!WhenIwaskidIwassetuponafewtimesbyrunningdogsthatswhatmyDadusedtocallthem,
domesticpetsoutfornogood.Idroppedmybike,thedogs,2ofthemmaybe40ftaway,wereadvancingIletywithegg
sizewornroundstones:hitthembothintheside,andintheface.Itstoppedthemandtheyed.Ijumpedonmybikeand
bookedittoo.Ialsoheardlaughterworks,anditdidwhenaSheppardwaschasingmeIpeddledmyasso,butatthesame
timeforcedtheloudestlaughteroutIcouldmaniccrazylaughter.Thedogslowedandwatchedmeripogreat!!!Other
timesIvejustfreakedoutyellingwithalltheamingrageIcouldanditscaredthedogsenoughtobackthemo.Really.

ThisistherstarticleIvefoundthatdescribesthedogsanatomyforselfdefensepurposes.RecentlymyTibetanTerrierwas
aackedbyaloosepitbull.InstinctivelyIaackedthepitbullandafterseveralbitestomyhandsandarms,managedtogetthe
pitbulltoreleasemydog.TopreventthePBfromrunningaftermydog,Ididachokeholdonhisneckfrombehindandknocked
himdownwithallmystrength.Iplacedonekneeonhisneckandanotheronhislowerabdomenareawhilepressingmyhands
intothesideofhisface.Theballsofmyfeetwerermlyanchoredtothegroundtopreventhimfromtopplingmeover.Notthe
safestmethod
