Question 1

Cognition can be defined as the act or process of knowing and cognitive theories of learning
focus on the mind and attempt to show how information is received, assimilated, stored and
recalled. On the other hand, constructivism gives emphasis to the knowledge, beliefs and skills
an individual brings to the learning situation.

a. Suggest FIVE (5) different ways in which you would incorporate cognitivist principles in
your own classroom.

b. Propose FIVE (5) different ways in which the constructivist principles can be applied to
enhance learning among your students.

The Tyler Model and the Taba Model function as a guide for curriculum development.

a. In the Tyler Model, explain why the educational purposes or objectives are subjected to
philosophical and psychological screening before the specific instructional objectives are
identified.

b. The Taba Model is also referred to as the grass-roots model. Discuss the involvement of
teachers in developing a curriculum based on Tabas Model.

You have been entrusted in designing a new curriculum that will replace the current curriculum.

a. All curricula have content and how individuals view content is affected by their view of
knowledge and philosophical position. Explain FIVE (5) criteria that you would consider
in selecting the content for the new curriculum that you are designing.

b. Having selected the content as in (a), discuss how you would go about organising the
content in relation to its scope and integration.
