Homework:
Homework will be sent home next
week to reinforce and support
classroom learning. Homework
will be handed out on Mondays.
Students are encouraged to
complete the tasks for return
Friday.
Home reading:
Reading at home can assist in
bridging the gap between reading
at school and at home.
Students are very excited to
receive home readers and are
eager to practise their reading.
Home readers can be changed
once the student has read the
book on three separate occasions
at home to develop their fluency.

I am looking forward to teaching your children this year in year 2.
Literacy
Students will develop key literacy skills through a program called
Language Learning and Literacy (L3). Students will engage in
reading groups daily to build on their reading and comprehension
skills. Students will develop their writing skills in independent,
guided and modeled writing lessons including spelling,
handwriting and grammar focused lessons.
Mathematics
In mathematics, students will develop their skills during classroom
numeracy groups through guided teacher experiences and
independent group activities. These groups will focus on place
value, addition and subtraction involving one and two digit
numbers, multiplication and division, fractions and decimals and
patterns. Students will also focus on measurement, space &
geometry developing skills in measuring length, capacity, volume
and area as well as two-dimensional and three-dimensional
space.
Science
In science this term we will be completing a unit called Mixing it
up. In this unit students will look at introductory chemistry and
how different materials can be combined for a particular purpose
creating and investigating mixtures of solids and liquids.
History/Geography
In geography we will be focusing on investigating the features and
places within Australia including how to care for places, weather
patterns and the features of places identified in Aboriginal
Dreaming stories. This focus in geography will be connected to
our history unit on the development of the Sydney Harbour Bridge
and its role in Australian culture and history.
PDHPE
This term our Physical Education focus will be on preparing for the
athletics carnival developing fundamental movement skills through
these activities. In Personal Development and Health we will be
working on the Bounce Back program looking at self-respect,
being friendly and developing social skills.
