Introduction

A conditional can describe both real and


unreal possibilities.
The first conditional describes real
possibilities.
Examples:
If it rains, I will stay home.
They will go home if she comes to the party.
First conditional - When do we use it?
Expresses a possible condition and its
possible outcome in the future.
Also can express different functions, such
as threats, warnings, offers, and promises.
There is a real possibility that the condition
will happen.
Can, Shall, May can be used instead of Will.
First conditional - Forms

Forms Examples
If + Simple Present + If its sunny tomorrow,
Will well go to the beach.
If + Present Perfect + They can play only if
Modal Auxiliary Verb they have finished
If + Present Continuous their homework.

If/When/Unless + Present form + Present

We usually use a present tense after


conjunctions of time (when, as soon as,
before, until, after)

When its important to show that the action


in the time clause is finished, we can use
Present Perfect.
I cant invite you to my house until we have fixed
the plumbing.

have permission to go out and play.
