Enjoyment and Entertainment 1


ENG-1102-2 (50 hrs.)

OBJECTIVE

To help adult learners use oral and written discourse to deal competently with real-
life situations related to exploring Quebec and Canadian cultural expression. The
learners will primarily be exposed to informative, aesthetic, and expressive
genre, which might contain narrative, explanatory, and persuasive elements.

END-of-COURSE OUTCOMES

Understand and appreciate aesthetic texts (e.g. short stories, radio and
television dramas, Quebec and Canadian films)
Understand informative texts (e.g. newspaper magazine articles and reviews,
letters of inquiry and journal entries
Produce letters, short articles, and opinion texts to receive and provide
information about the issues of the day
Discuss interpretations, express and justify opinions, and share views and
responses to aesthetic experiences.

expressing appreciation of art, films, music; discusses films, plays, music;
exchanging information about cultural activities and events such as walking-out
ceremonies; exchanging information about Canadian artists and musicians such as
group CerAmony, Neil Young, Celine Dion; reading biographies; reading ads and
