SUPERVISED TEACHING

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PLAN

The observation areas listed below are suggestions to guide you to in-depth observations of the
Clinical Teachers methods of conducting his/her classroom and providing an appropriate
learning environment for the students. For each of the areas listed below, observe, reflect and
journal a response that will be the basis for your own Classroom Management Plan.

Using these observations, you will create your own Classroom Management Plan to be
completed by the end of EDUC 468: Introductory Supervised Teaching

Classroom Procedures and Routines

o How do students enter the room? From the only door located, they hang up their backpacks,
grab snacks, AR books and anything they may need.
o How do students leave the room? They leave out the same door but must see the teacher to get
a hand stamp if they had a good day. No handstamp if they misbehaved.
o How do students move around the room during the lesson? o Passing out and collecting papers.
Each day the paper passer will switch clockwise. That person is responsible for passing out
papers and collecting papers when finished.

o Homework
Completed work: comes back on Friday and new homework is sent out on Friday
Extra work: none

o Passing out and collecting supplies- This is done by the paper passer which switches at each
day every day.
o Drinking fountain, restroom, pencil sharpening- Drinking and restroom the student must ask.
They can go to restroom once per day if more than that, they must lose a Dojo Point. There are
sharpened pencils in back that they can choose from so no sharpening.
o Dismissal/greeting- Students are greeted at the door and teacher goes over schedule every
morning. Dismissal by tables, chairs up and clean floor they get a hand stamp.
o Roll taking- Teacher simply looks for any empty chairs.

Classroom Physical Environment

o Furniture arrangement- Easily accessible for students and adults.
o Bulletin boards- This includes the word wall, calendar wall, borders, student work and child of
the week.
o Student work posted- Yes student work is hung from the ceiling and posted on the walls.

Student Management

o Classroom rules (copy required)

o School rules (copy required) Copy is located below this assignment.
o Student discipline procedures- Student will lose Dojo point. In more
severe cases their parents will receive notes of the behavior the student
was doing. When the case is very severe the student and any students
are taken out of the classroom and the VP is made aware.

Teaching Practices
o Established routines- Teacher goes over schedule daily. Also, much of what they do is a
routine. For example, calendar, daily language and daily math so students are used to routines.

o Motivational phrases- None that the class know specifically. But teacher will tell students okay
great its starting to make sense. Do your best.
o Positive reinforcement- Teacher points out positive behavior and ways students are behaving.
Teacher will say look at John, hes being such a good listener, hes getting a point

o Response control/expectations
Whole class- Must raise hand no blurting.
Individual Student must raise hand
Helping students when you are working with other students- Students must remain in seat and
raise their hand.

o Key instructional phrases

o Physical involvement of teacher with the class (movement around the classroom)
Teacher does activities using document projector. However, she will move around the room as
students are completing work.

o Transitions
Within lessons- Students are expected to sit down, voices off and meatball hands while waiting
for the next lesson.
Between lessons and/or activities- Students are given specific instructions for what to do. Often
times students struggle with transitions.
 Classroom Management Plan
Classroom rules:
Classroom rules will be aligned with the school rules and will be communicated on the first day
of school. There will be many reminders for following the school rules, so students know what is
expected of them. When students break rules, they will be told which rule has been broken and
why that is unacceptable.
Examples of classroom rules:
-Be kind to your classmates
-Listen to your teacher
-Respect property that doesnt belong to you
-Follow directions quickly
-Work and play in a safe manner

Raising Hand:
Students will always enter and leave from the same door. They
will show two fingers crossed over if they need to use the
restroom. When they leave they will put a sign on their desk, so
I know where they are. If they need a tissue, they will put four
fingers in the air together. If they would like a drink of water,
they will show three fingers. By doing this, I can avoid students
raising their hand to ask if they can go. Instead, I can see what
they need in a faster way. If they need help, then they will need
to remain in their seat, raise their hand and wait patiently.

Homework:
Homework will be completed on a weekly basis. It will go home on Friday and be returned the
following Friday with parent initials. If students turn homework in late, they will receive
consequences.

Attendance/Dismissal/Paper Passing:
When students come into the classroom, they will be expected
to complete morning work. This will give myself time to talk
to parents if necessary, collect items students give to me and
students will establish a routine. I can also take attendance at
this time while students are working. My students will also
have classroom jobs. These jobs will be for a month long and
include: paper passer, paper collector, door opener, trash collector, light monitor, message carrier
and table monitor. This ensure students are being held responsible to jobs and will take care of
things that would take time for me to do. Instead I can focus on instruction.

Classroom Physical Environment:

The room will be decorated with students work, bulletin boards,
calendar wall and many colorful borders. There will be space for
students to move around easily. It will also be easy for the teacher to
navigate. During lessons, I will be walking around to ensure students
are paying attention. I will also ensure that the small group teacher
table, is somewhere in the class so that I can see all students.
There will also be a large classroom library. There will be many books
organized by reading levels. There will also be comfortable chairs in the
library. Each week two students will get to read in the comfortable
chairs for that week.

Teaching Practices:
In my classroom, I plan on establishing routines. These routines
will be for each day and each day of the week will be similar for
each following week. This allows students to become
accustomed to school procedures and what is expected. I will
use many different ways of getting students attention. For
example 1, 2, 3 eyes on me, 1, 2 eyes on you or Hocus
Pocus, everybody focus! Also, to make transitions go smoother
and allow students to become used to transitioning, Ill use
specific strategies. I will use songs in the classroom which will
be played during transitions. For each transition I will play a
specific song, approximately 1 to 1.5 minutes long. When the
song ends, students will need to have transitioned from the
previous activity.

Motivational Phrases/Positive Reinforcement:

Ill use motivational phrases with my students when they are succeeding
and when they need to improve. This will allow students to become
motivated and encouraged to try their best. I will also print and laminate
motivation phrases to give to students when I think they need one.
For positive reinforcement, I will also encourage tables to work together as a team. I will use
class dojo in my classroom to manage behavior. When a table gets to 30 points, they will receive
classroom coupons. Each student picks out a coupon which includes: use a pen pass, wear a hat
in class pass, bring a stuffed animal, lunch with the teacher and read to the class.

Classroom Behavior and Discipline:

In order for my students to be motivated to behave well, I plan to
use Class Dojo in my classroom. This is a fun classroom
management tool that is completely online. Im using it in my
student teaching class and students respond really well. Its great
because I can give points to students for positive behavior, as
well as, take points away for negative behavior. I can also
communicate with parents very easily. I can send messages to
specific parents or put up classroom announcements. Parents can
also see how their child is doing in the classroom and how their
points look day by day. In order to keep students motivated, I
plan on having many classroom rewards for their points. This
way students will always stay motivated to do their best and will
receive awards. I will also have
students make goals for the week
so theyre being responsible and holding themselves
accountable.
