How to find Compatibility in Horoscopes for marriage.

Part 1

In this article I explain how to examine horoscopes of bride and groom for compatibility for
marriage. And give some illustrations of horoscopes. Apart from checking of both horoscopes of
bride and groom for matching, the astrologer must also examine the horoscopes of bride
and groom carefully to get information about his / her character, attitude to life, and other aspects
like
* whether he / she will get children. Important points to be checked are
* whether his / her horoscope is likely to promote longevity of the spouse.
* her own longevity
* whether he / she will be faithful to life-partner (without Jaratva-dosha = no adultery / prostitute
qualities)
* whether he / she will get good children

Part 2

The important points to be examined are listed below

1) Check the 7th, 8th and 5th house and position and lagnam in his/ her horoscope.7th house is
known as 'kalathra sthanam'. It denotes the family and sex life of wife and husband. This house
should be occupied by good planets or should be aspected (drushti) by good planets. If this
house is occupied by Sani or Rahu or Kethu, one should better abandon proceeding with this
alliance. If the 7th or 8th house is occupied by Mars, the horoscope has got strong Kuja 'Dosham'
(Mars malefic effect). Both the horoscopes should have matching Kuja dosham. Otherwise
the marriage will not be successful. 8th house denotes his / her and her husband's longevity.So it
should be occupied or aspected by good planets. 5th and 9th house denote the prospects of
getting children. If these are aspected by Guru(Jupitar), then the bride would definitely get
children. If this house is occupied or aspected by Rahu/Kethu or Sani(Saturn), the chances of
getting children diminishes

2) Lagnam denotes his / her health, character and habits. It also indicates the colour of skin. So
Lagnam should be occupied or aspected by good planets. It would be good if it is occupied by its
lord or friend or well-disposed Jupiter or Venus.

Rasi : Bride / Grooms Rasi should not be 6th or 8th from the other persons rasi (or Indu-lagnam),
which is known as 'Shasta-ashtakam'. There is a strongly held view that with this malefic effect
they will constantly quarrel with spouse on small matters. If bride / grooms Rasi is located on the
7th house from others rasi, it is known as 'Samasapthakam'. In this case, they will have a very
happy and successful married life.
Part 3

1)The position of Sukra(Venus), who is known as 'kalathrakaraka'(significator of spouse and

married life), should be checked. If it is in 7th house, the horoscope has 'Sukra' dosha (malefic
Venus). It can be matched with only bride / groom having Sukra (Venus) in 7th house.

2)Star : Bride / Grooms birth star must be a mithra (friend), sampath (riches-giving), Kshema
(welfare-giving), saadhana (success-giving), or parama-mithra (best friend), counted from birth
star of the bride / groom.
Brides with following birth stars Bharani, Mrigasira, Makha, Hastha, Anuradha, will be good for
husband and family life . Brides with following birth stars Ashwini, Karthika, Jyeshta, Moola,
Chitha; Poorva-ashadha and Revathi should be chosen only if horoscope contains good features.
Check if the brides / grooms horoscope is blessed with some good yogas like 'Raja yogam',
'Gajakesari yogam', 'Chandramangala yogam'. If good planets occupy or aspect lagnam and
other important houses like 2,4, 7, 9, 10 and 11, then it is considered Raja yogam. If Guru is in
7th house from lagnam and is in a kendram from Chandra then it is known as 'Gaja' yogam. If
Guru is in 4th house from Chandra then it is 'Kesari' yogam. If Mars is in 7th house from
Chandra or is in conjunction with Chandra in any house, it is 'Chandramangala' yogam. The
astrologer must give preference to a bride / groom, who has got one or more raja-yogas.

1. Longevity (Deergha-Ayu yogam): Jataka Marthada (sloka) Lagne Surya samayukthe, randhre
Kuja samanvithe, nrupathulya sukhopetho deergha-ayur-yogam-apnuyath = If Sun is in birth
lagnam and Mars is in 8th house, the person enjoys royal comforts and has long life span, more
than 75 years.
2. Raja-yogam due to Guru : If Guru is in own house or is exalted and is in Kendra or konam ;
the person shall have good personality, beauty, good moral character and very prosperous. Guru
is in his own house, in 5thhouse (Sri Mahalakshmi Sthanam) and is (9th drushti) aspecting
lagnam, beautiful & healthy and good natured and noble.
Guru is in 5th house (Puthra-sthana). She shall have good, hale and healthy and noble children;
her first child shall be a son.
3. Srika yoga : Benefics Mercury is in Lagnam; full Moon is exalted in 7th house; Guru is in
konam (5thhouse); Sri Mahalakshmi sthanam. She is a billionaire. Full Moon (exalted) in 7 th house
the best for her husband. He rises from an ordinary middle class man to a highly prosperous
tycoon.
4 Raja-yogam due to Chandra :Full moon is in 7thhouse (kendram; Sri Narayana
sthanam) exalted; she gets good husband and her marital life shall be happy. Her husband
flourishes very highly in life due to Moon and becomes a business tycoon.
5. Sunapha yogam : Mars is next house to Moon. So she prospers highly in her life; a billionaire.

6. Parivarthana (Exchange) yoga : Mars is in Gemini; Mercury is in Scorpio. So both Mars and
Mercury give her beneficial results. She will have palacial mansion; & prosperity
7.Dhana Lakshmi yoga : The lord of 9th house (Bhagyam) is Moon; she is full and exalted. So
she is a multi-billionaire. The exalted Moon is 7 th house; her husband will be a multi-billionaire.
Her husbnad shall be blessed with health, wealth, success, and longevity due to full Moon in
exaltation in 7th house (Bharthru-sthana).
8. Vidya yogam : Guru is in own house in Sri Mahalakshmi sthanam; the lord of 4 th House Vidya
house is in Bhagyam (9th). So she earned a M.C.A. from a reputed University Engineering
College in India; later she earned a M.S. Degree from world-famous and high-rank University in
U.S.A.
9. Maha-rani-yogam : She leads the life of a Queen during the Gurus period. She will
have male-children.
10. Royal Luxuries : Raja-yogam : The lord of .Rajyam (10th house) is Sun and is in birth lagnam;
she enjoys royal luxuries in life and occupies top-most position inher profession, during Guru
dasa .
11. Neecha bhanga raja yogam : Venus is debilitated in Kanya. (1) Mercury is the lord of
Virgo; he is in birth lagnam. (2) Guru is in his own house in exaltation house of Venus. Guru
aspects Sukra. So this is an example of Neecha bhanga raja yoga.(royal) for her. Her marriage
was delayed by 3 to 5 years, due to Sukra in Neecha house, in Virgo.
12. Kuja Dosha (Malefic Mars) : The great Saint-Astrologers of ancient
times mentioned : slokam :ARKA, INDU KSHETHRA JATHANAM KUJA-DOSHO NA
VIDYATHAE; SVA, UTCHA, MITHRA BHAJATHAANAM PEEDKO NA BHAVETH KUJA : So for a
person born in Scorpio birth lagna, the Kuja Dosha is not applicable. So she has no Kuja dosha
(Mars is not malefic).

4. Lagna-adhi yogam : If Jupiter or Venus are associated with Mercury in the 6th ,7th or 8th
houses or if they are spread out in these three houses without any malefic association, a very
beneficial yoga known as Lagnadhi yoga is formed, the effects of which are as under :- "The
person born under the Lagnadhi yoga will become a minister, a commander or a ruler (of a
District or Province). He will have one wife only, will be well-behaved, long-lived, virtuous and
without foes.
5. Longevity : Saturn (the signficator of aayu, logevity) is in upachaya (11th house; laabham) in
friends house;the lord of 8th house (aayu-sthana) is Jupiter and is in 7th house (kendra) forming
strong Gaja-kesari yoga.
6. If three benefics stay in Kendra (Sri Narayana-sthana) houses, the person enjoys prosperity
and happiness in life. Full moon is in birth lagnam; Mercury and Jupiter are in 7th house (Kalathra-

Kuja Dosha analysis : According to ancientRishis , Mangala Dosha can occur when
Mars is placed in the first, second, fourth, seventh, eighth or twelfth house from the birth-lagna,
Moon. Venus. It is described in ancient Sanskrit text MUHOORTHA-CHINTHAMANI* :
slokam : LAGNAE VYAYAECHA, PAATHALAE, JAMITHRAECHA, ASHTAMAE KUJAE
STHREENAAMBHARTHRU VINASAAYA: PUMSAA BHARYA VINASANAM; The famous ancient
Saint-Astrologer Sri Agashtya Maharshi wrote in his text on Astrology,*AGASHTYA SAMHITHA;
DHANAE , VYAYEACHA, PAATHALAE, JAMITHRECHA, ASHTAMAE KUJA STHITHU, KUJA-
DOSHAMUCHYATHAE; The malefic-effect of Mars is strongest (100%) when Mars is positioned
in 1,2,4,7,8,12 houses from the house of Venus (Sukra); the ill-effect of Mars is very strong
(about 75%) when Mars is positioned in 1,2,4,7,8,12 houses from the house of Moon: the ill-
effect of Mars is moderately strong (about 66%)when Mars is positioned in 1,2,4,7,8,12 houses
from the house of birth (Janma-birth lagnam (ascendant)= ascendant). But 75% of the general
astrologer are quacks and do not possess the depth of knowledge and experience in Astrology;
so they explain the Kuja dosham taking the moon-position or birth lagnam (ascendant) as the
starting point to count; this is not at all correct in our opinion. We must take the position of Venus
(Sukra) as the reference house, because Sukra is the ruling planet for conjugal life and marriage.

Kuja (Mangal, Angaraka, Mars) Dosha (Malefic Effects) :-- Kuja dosha affects the married life of a
person in many ways it creates delays, cheating, hurdles and obstacles in getting married. After
marriage one of the partners or both the partners can suffer physical, mental or financial
hardships. It causes mutual disputes, allegations and counter-allegations and may even lead to
separation of the couple. If Kuja Dosha is pronounced, one of the partners may remain ill or there
may be untimely death of either one or both the partners.

1) Abhishek : Mars is in 8th house from birth birth lagnam (ascendant) (ascendant); Mars is in
2nd house from Moon. Mars in 5th house from Venus (so there is no Kuja dosha from Venus)

2) Aiswarya : Mars is in 4th house from Moon as well as birth-lagna. Mars is in 6th house from
Venus (so there is no Kuja dosha from Venus)
So according to many astrologers, we need not be scared of Mangala Dosha. Efforts should be
made for a person having Mangala Dosha to marry another person with Mangala Dosha because
when the dosha is similar, it gets nullified and the couple leads a happy married life. In my
opinion, the Kuja dosha is reduced in intensity but not totally removed. In this case, their married
life shall be happy and fruitful, because Kuja Dosha is reduced to minimum level in the aspect of
marriage.
