accomplished

Medical care unit on 02/28/2017. During my morning assessment of an 86-year old white
male, his right arm showed signs of infiltration from an IV that was administering maintenance
fluids. I stopped the transfusion, elevated his arm, and discontinued his IV. I successfully inserted
a 20 gauge IV in his left forearm on my first attempt using aseptic technique. Assumed care of a
95-year old white female who reported nausea, and requested medication to relieve her
symptoms. Per the physicians orders I administered Ondansetron, 8mg, IV push, over 3 minutes.

Out patent infusion on 2/14/2017: Accessed and flushed and implanted port using sterile
technique on a 65-year old white female patient. Administered two units of blood through a port
of a 25-Year old white female with lymphoma. Drew blood from a port of an elderly white male
for laboratory studies, administered heparin and de-accessed his port.

Labor and Delivery 02/21/2017: Placed an external monitor on a pregnant woman for a
non-stress test. Identified fetal heart rate, fetal heart pattern, and uterine activity. During this
clinical day, I performed a newborn assessment and administered prophylactic eye care.

Medical care unit 5/5/2016; successfully inserted an 18 French Foley catheter per hospital
policy, using sterile technique into a male patient with a history of urinary surgery, and bladder
spasms.

Post-surgical unit 10/6/2016: Changed a colostomy appliance on a new ostomy for


middle aged man. Educated the patient and their care giver on steps to take care of and change
the appliance. Patient expresses acceptance with new stoma stating, at least its not cancer.

Activities engaged in at the college

Fall 2017: Community health fair. Administered flu shots, performed eye and ear exams, and
passed out emergency supply kits.
Spring 2016: Replenish first aid kids on SWOCC campus

Nursing club meetings: attended three meetings in 2015 and in 2016.
