Module 1: Entrepreneurship and Innovation


The module focuses on the nature of enterprise and of entrepreneurialism along with the role entrepreneurship
plays in the development of the small business. The corporate life cycle and the changing nature of entrepreneurship
in larger businesses and corporations are reviewed, along with the parallel development of entrepreneurial skills.
The module also considers the role and importance of entrepreneurial skills in relation to the global market place.

Module 2: Financial Management


This module focuses on how financial information and control systems are used throughout an organisation to both
assist decision-making and evaluate performance. Content will therefore include project funding theories,
organisations relationship with financial markets and institutions, setting and controlling of budgets, financial
strategies, assessment of the viability of capital investments and financial risk management. Organisational size,
degree of globalisation and relationship to public or private ownership will be seen as relevant issues for discussion.

Module 3: Research Methodology


This module focuses on the importance of the nature and purpose of research aims, objectives, research questions,
hypotheses and distinction between inductive/deductive methodologies. The ethical dimensions of research are
emphasised and the Universitys research ethics approval procedure outlined throughout the module along with
the nature, importance, and process of writing a literature review. Primary and secondary data, collection of
qualitative and quantitative data, use of specialist software for design and analysis (SPSS, Excel), techniques for
constructing a persuasive argument based on research evidence are considered are also covered in the module to
develop the skills to the formulation and solution of business problems.

Module 4: Business Ethics


This module provides critically examine perspectives of business ethics and corporate responsibility by reference to
a range of traditional and postmodern ethical theories. The module is built on management theories and tools
introduced in other modules in the programme, such as ethical stance and corporate citizenship in strategic
management, environmental and social audits with financial reporting. Furthermore, the materials for the module
will reflect emerging issues highlighted by the media.
Module 5: Business Simulation
This module focuses on providing the insights and management aptitudes into the conceptual frameworks to
operate companies, thus makes students familiarize with the rationale for the simulation, and its main features to
form an effective group. Strong global marketing themes along with SMART objectives are covered throughout the

simulation to make students capable on studying overseas markets by analysing exchange rates, inflation and
growth rates in the various markets.

Module 6: International Management


This module examines the current context of international management and cover issues such as cultural
differences in perceptions and assessment of managerial effectiveness. Students will be introduced to the major
theories and studies of organisational change, analysis of personal and organisational power, strategies for
managing change including a consideration of resistance and opposition. The module will also examine the impact
of globalisation, developing an organisational culture that fosters innovation and creativity.

Module 7: Operations and Project Management


This module will provide an overview of the breadth of operations management in contemporary organisations to
raise awareness and understanding of the strategic issues involved in the way organisations manage the operational
activities and facilities, within and beyond the firm boundaries. Furthermore, the module critically evaluates the
importance of a strategic approach to operations management and the application of operational
theories/processes in the competitive and changing environment.

Module 8: Marketing
This module provides a broader view of the contribution of marketing in its various guises and contexts (B2B,
international, services etc.) and examines the cultural issues behind adoption of a marketing orientation. Students
will be encouraged to consider key marketing planning tools and concepts (e.g. added value, segmentation,
positioning), and the importance of information and forecasting, where they will critically evaluate the strategic
marketing theories by developing top-line plans for supporting operational marketing strategies and performance
managing these initiatives.

Module 9: Strategic Management


This module will provide an overview of the concept of strategy, where it will cover the nature of strategic decisions
and strategy formulation in both public and private sector organisations. External environmental analytical tools will
be evaluated and applied with reference to a selection of case study organisations. Moreover, the internal factors
such as strategic leadership and organisational culture will be considered along with the corporate/social
responsibilities, legal context and business ethics.
Module 10: Organizational Behaviour
This module explores the main theories of leadership and organisational behaviour. It will examine management
functions and the key issues affecting contemporary managers. The module further focuses on understanding the
relationships between individual behaviour, leadership, organisational structure and management processes.

Module 11: MBA Dissertation


The MBA Dissertation focuses on providing the experience of undertaking an individual and original piece of research
into a topical management problem at higher degree level.

The MBA is contextualised to the management and training needs of a dynamic global market.

Evaluate contemporary thinking about the natures of enterprise and current theories of entrepreneurial
behaviour
Understand, critically review and evaluate the role of innovation in the successful development of the
enterprise
Analyse the relationship between the financial management function and the overall aims and corporate
responsibilities of an organization
Identify and use relevant methods to collect, organise and analyse a range of business information using
appropriate techniques of quantitative and qualitative analysis
Examine the responsibilities and challenges faced by businesses in a global environment, with respect to
sustainability in different regulatory environment
Systematic understanding of the theories and concepts pertaining to management of organisations operating
in the international arena
Identify and delineate a managerial problem; construct testable hypotheses, or propositions in relation to
the problem and draw up aims and objectives which are pertinent to the analysis of the problem after
consultation with host organisations management

Dr. Sampath Kannangara PhD, BSc (Hons), CEng, MIET, MIEEE


CEO, Informatics Institute of Technology

Dr. Kannangara is an ICT expert with over 14 years of both local and international experience in business
management, higher education, consultancy, research, and software development. He obtained his Bachelors
Degree in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering from University of Moratuwa, following which he went on
to pursue a Doctorate in Video Compression from the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland. He has led
numerous groundbreaking postgraduate research degree projects in the areas of Engineering, Computing,
Architecture and Arts at the IDEAS Research Institute of the Robert Gordon University. Dr. Kannangara has published
many papers and holds a number of patents including Patent Number WO Patent 2,007,066,101, Encoder Control
Apparatus and Method.

Dr. Ruvan Weerasinghe PhD, MSc, BSc


Dean, Informatics Institute of Technology

Dr. Ruvan is a dynamic lecturer with more than 13 years of lecturing experience and is led with his interests in Natural
Language Processing, Machine Translation, Bioinformatics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Dr. Ruvan is
an expert in natural language processing and artificial intelligence and continues to contribute to research, publishing
a vast number of research papers. He holds many professional affiliations including Sri Lanka Association for Artificial
Intelligence Computer Society of Sri Lanka, Internet Society and Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science.

Ms. Kumudini Sarathchandra MBA, BSc, PMP, PMI, Dip in BA

Being a lecturer for years in IT and Business Management, Ms. Kumudini is known for her skills in Project
Management, Business Administration, Marketing and Information Systems.

Mr. Austen with over 25 years of academic and professional experience is one of the most experienced and
successful lecturers in Informatics Institute of Technology.
Mr. Alroy Mascrenghe MBA, MIT, PGD

Mr. Alroy Mascrenghe has a strong interest in technology strategy and innovation, and he is continuing working for
on these various aspects, as the CEO/ Technical Director, DataMatrix Consultancy Services Pvt Ltd, Sri Lanka. His
main areas of interest are Data Warehousing and Database Management Systems, Enterprise Resource Planning
Systems Big Data Analysis/Data Mining and Artificial Intelligence/Expert Systems. Mr. Alroy has published many
technical papers in journals including IEEE CEFC Digest.

Ms. Shonali Aponso MBA, BSc. Management with Law

Ms. Aponso is a lecturer with more than 15 years of experience and holds a certificate IV in Training and Assessment
from National Training Pte Ltd (Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority) Australia. She is currently reading
for her Mphil/PhD from University of Jayawardanapura - Sri Lanka.

Mr. Shantha Yapa MBA, MSc, BSc

Mr. Yapa counts 30 years of experience in diverse fields of Manufacturing, Banking, International Business and
General Management and at present works for Epic Lanka the as Vice President heading HRD, Organizational
Development and Corporate Communications. He is a member of the Standing Committee for Computing at the
University Grants Commission, Faculty Industry Consultative Board of the Engineering Faculty of University of
Moratuwa, Program Advisory Committee of Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education (SLIATE),
Advisory committee of SLIIT Computing and ICT Industry Skills Council.
Mr. T M Jayasekara MBA, BSc in Engineering

Mr. Jayasekara is a passionate lecturer with interests in Business Management. Currently he is working for Asian
Development Bank as a National Consultant in Project Management, where he applies his theories in to practice.
He holds affiliations including Institution of Engineers- Sri Lanka, Institute of Management Sri Lanka, The Institution
of Water and Environmental Management-UK, Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing, Sri Lanka Institute of Training and
Development and Institution of Civil Engineer. He is also a visiting lecturer at Australian College of Business and
Technology - Sri Lanka (ACBT), University of Colombo - Sri Lanka (UOC), University of Peradeniya -Sri Lanka (UOP)
and University of Kelaniya - Sri Lanka (UOK).

Ms. Florida Rajanayagam MBA, Master of Science in Marketing, Bachelors in International Business

Ms. Rajanayagam has a strong interest in business management and administration, is a passionate professional with
lecturing experiences in many universities such as Metropolitan University, Australian Institute of Business and

University of West London. She currently holds the membership of Chartered Institute of Management Accountant
(CIMA) and works as an Assistant Internal Audit Manager at CEAT Kelani International Holdings PVT Ltd.

Mr. Thariq Marikkar PhD, BSc, PMP

Mr. Marikkar is active professional in many industries including engineering research, system design and system
implementation spanning manufacturing, electronic banking, telecommunications and services sectors. Mr. Marikkar
is currently working for Aberdeen Holdings as the Group Chief Information Officer and holds memberships at British
Computer Society, British Engineering Council and Certified Management Accountants (Australia).
Mr. Hussain Shabbir BSc (Hons) in Information Systems

Mr. Shabbir is currently working at Virtusa (Pvt) Ltd as the Senior Architect & Head of Cloud Practice with wide
experience in Business Information Systems. He is also acting as the vice president of SL Software Testing Board
(SLSTB) and has won many awards including Award of Excellence (in Recognition of Years of Service & Dedication),
Aeturnum Lanka (Pvt) Ltd 2011, Delivery Excellence Long Term Special Award (SE&A), Virtusa (Pvt) Ltd 2005, RAVE
(Recognize And Value Everyone) Award - Client Delight (SE&A) from Virtusa (Pvt) Ltd 2004, and RAVE (Recognize

Mr. Sanjiv Palihawadene MBA, BSc (Hons)

Mr. Palihawadene is a major in Business and Information Systems is currently working as the Vice President & Joint
Business Unit Head of Healthcare for Virtusa Corporation. He is also an eight-time winner of the Quarterly Service
Excellence Award at Virtusa Corporation and the winner of the Super 10 Gold Award and a Special Category Award at
the National HRM Awards 2012. Mr. Palihawadene also an active member of Golden Key Honor Society.Mr.
Prasanna Pathmanathan MBA, BSc (Hons), CIM

Mr. Pathmanathan is an experienced professional and a recognized International Corporate Trainer/Business cum
Marketing Consultant/Fashion Consultant/ Mentor/Trainer cum Journalist. Apart from his academic qualifications, he
also possesses many professional qualifications including Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing (CIM),
Professional Certificate in Business Administration, Diploma in Human Resource Management, General Diploma in
Psychology, Higher National Diploma (HND) in Organizational Psychology, Certified Professional Marketer (CPM) and
Certified Internet Marketing Professional (CIMP). He is also a member of Association of Business Executives (UK)
The Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK), Sri Lankan Institute of Marketing (SLIM), Institute of Management of Sri

Mr. Saif Ramzi MBA

Mr. Saif is a well-experienced professional qualified in International Marketing, Merchandising, Product Development,
Operations and Team Management and currently working as the General Manager for Nor Lanka Manufacturing (Pvt.)
Ltd., Sri Lanka. Apart from his MBA Mr. Saif possesses Diploma in clothing Production Management, Diploma in
Business Administration, Diploma in Computer Studies and Advanced Certificate in Apparel Marketing CIM etc. He
is also an award winner and his awards include National Prize Winner for the Best Aggregate Prize (Sri Lanka) for
Business Communication & Presentation etc.
