I. PROJECT TITLE : Focus Group Discussion on Coffee Industry

IV. DATE OF IMPLEMENTATION : August 13 -14, 2012

V. RATIONALE:
Coffee is a high-value crop being promoted by the department of Agriculture. With the growing
demand for this product, the need to undertake necessary steps to revive and promote the
industry is of paramount consideration. DTI is interested in the revival and promotion of the coffee
industry.

A cluster for coffee industry in the Cagayan Valley has to be created as an implement to
effectuate the rehabilitation plans and programs for the industry by the lead government agencies
(like Department of Agriculture and Philippine Coffee Board). The state colleges, universities and
other research institute located in the region would also be of great help in the furtherance of
these government programs.

Cagayan Valley, particularly in Nueva Vizcaya which is a mountainous province, has the
resources/capability of growing the best coffee bean.

In order for the industry to position its product in the domestic and export market, there is a need
to validate the data information culled from support agencies and coffee growers to determine the
growth level of its products and by-products in terms of market scope and key industry players.
Hence, this proposal.

VI. PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

General: To discuss with the stakeholders, gather additional inputs and opinions that will be helpful in
crafting the coffee industry chain map, objectives and strategies.

Specifically:
For the participants to provide new ideas, insights and suggests strategies for the
improvement of the coffee industry;
To identify probable problems and its corresponding solutions underlying the coffee industry;
To come up with validated industry mapping and objectives
