Tomorrow & Tomorrow & Tomorrow

AADCU 2016 ISBN 9780984391349 Acqn 26751
Hb 16x24cm 132pp col ills 33.25

The outcome of three lectures held at SCI-Arc in Los Angeles in March 2012 given by Peter
Eisenman, Jeffery Kipnis, and Thom Mayne this book introduces the interrelation of these
events in the form of an abstract symposium about the current state of the discipline, and about
its role at the school. It combines with the real symposium on the thesis content that took place,
which ultimately became a running commentary on contemporary architecture. The intersection of
intros, debates, lectures, and audience queries framed each proposition as a provisional
hypothesis immediately subject to challenge and reformulation. With contributions by Eric Owen
Moss.

inaugurated, aimed at nurturing new generations of architects and cultivating new and
sustainable approaches to heritage management. This is the fifth book published by the project.

Schweizweit / Recent Architecture In Switzerland

Christoph Merian Verlag 2016 ISBN 9783856168148 Acqn 27078
Pb 17x24cm 336pp 600ills 500col 45

'Schweizweit' portrays a snapshot of the architectural production in Switzerland in the year 2016.
Whilst the image of Swiss architecture, especially internationally, is still strongly characterised by
the 1990s and minimalism, the current constructed reality is more heterogeneous and regionally
differentiated. In cooperation with around 160 architectural practices from throughout the country
a visual atlas of current Swiss architecture has been created. This book shows the commonalities
and differences in the themes, content, and formal strategies that Swiss architects focus on
today.

Sanaa. Sejima & Nishizawa. 1990-2017

Avisa 2016 ISBN 9788461764976 Acqn 27096
Hb 24x30cm 352pp 550ills 450col 63.50

'SANAA. Sejima & Nishizawa. 1990-2017' gathers the complete oeuvre of Kazuyo Sejima and
Ryue Nishizawa over almost three decades of work of the three studios they lead in Tokyo, and
that has produced prominent buildings like the Zollverein School of Design in Essen, the Rolex
Center in Lausanne, the Louvre-Lens Museum, or their recent center for the Grace Farms
Foundation in Connecticut. With articles by Luis Fernndez-Galiano and the architects
themselves, this monograph examines the principles and methods behind the seeming simplicity
of the work of the two Japanese architects, and unveils the keys to the radicalness of their
architecture, extremely light and immaterial.

"Among the many clothing types in our wardrobe, none leads a more unappreciated existence
than the sock. Wavering between undergarment and outerwear, the staggering amount of
pressure and force applied to the sock each time we take a step forward attests to its silent
resilience. It is thus, not without irony, that the common definition of quality socks lies precisely in
how little we take notice of its presence; a good pair of socks becomes one that is absent when
worn on the feet..."

When B-side Becomes A-side - Jo Nagasaka

Kajima Institute Publishing Co 2016 ISBN 9784306046429 Acqn 26854
Pb 15x21cm 195pp 120col ills 37.75

Jo Nagasaka of Tokyo-based Schemata Architects works on various projects, from furniture to

architecture, and is intent on narrowing the gap between the two aspects of academic and living
architecture. All of the works presented in this book are categorised as B-side projects of
Schemata Architects, a term that plays on the standard reference to the reverse side of a record.
While the A-side features a hit track, the B-side often features a less commercial but more real
song. Especially in Japan, according to Nagasaka, people tend to be more interested in these B-
side projects, which all have the potential to become A-side, given that the projects values are
understood.

Who's Afraid Of Architecture? - Take One Venezia

Quodlibet 2016 ISBN 9788874628674 Acqn 26901
Pb 17x24cm 126pp 140ills 120col 21

In 2014, as part of the Venice Architecture Biennale, Florencia Costa carried out a project that
involved repurposing Palazzo Mora, one of the citys historic buildings. She conceived a
methodology of action Whos Afraid of Architecture and, reminiscent of Le Corbusiers final
project (the Civil Hospital in Venice), created a series of artists residences in the attic along with
a new exhibition walkway. The architect transformed what already existed, dismantling it,
reassembling it, revealing the primary and secondary wooden structure typically used to build
Venetian palazzi, and eliminating the traces of bourgeois life that over time had become stratified
in the areas originally destined for the service staff.

Japan is a land of earthquakes and typhoons, yet its forests are abundant with durable hinoki
(cypress) timber. Yutaka Saitos anthology on the nature, materiality, and history of Japanese
architecture examines 29 religious structures and temples. Built for long-lasting endurance, with
an architectural continuity that in some instances has been maintained for more than a

expertly guides the reader through a richly illustrated analysis of Japans historic periods and
influences, detailing innovations and techniques that have contributed to the essence of its

Recycled Theory Illustrated Dictionary

Quodlibet 2016 ISBN 9788874628940 Acqn 26902
Pb 12x19cm 658pp 50ills 28.75

Recycled Theory is a multidisciplinary dictionary made of entries in form of texts, drawings and
quotes, which explore the concept of recycling in design cultures and in the theories that nurture
them. Usually we recycle things, objects, spaces but more often we return on principles and
approaches to rearrange them, put them back into circulation, and override them. The practice of
recycling is therefore placed in an area of negotiation between memory and amnesia, it brings out
the unexpected self-regeneration potential of what exists. The words here collected (from
amnesia to zone) identify materials, procedures, ambiguities, deviations, and potential nexus
of recycling.
