1.

Teams are an important aspect of any successful organization, due simply to

the fact that the sum of a group of peoples abilities are greater than those of
one individual. There are many different ways that teams can be developed,
varying in an enormous amount of sizes and makeups, however the results
are always expected to be positive if the team is high quality. It is rare that a
team from its conception will be of very high quality, prior to this team
building will have to take place. Team building is a four-step process that
consists of Assess, Plan, Execute and Evaluate. In the construction industry,
there is no production without teams that are driven by quality, and take
pride in the outcome of their work. To ensure this occurs on a regular basis, it
is managements responsibility to guide teams through the different steps of
the team building process.

2. There are endless amounts of ways that conflicts can arise in team situations.
Even when all team members agree on a goal, they can still disagree on how
best to accomplish it. In order to respond positively to conflict, opposed to
Personally negative and Team Negative responses, there are a number of
strategies that one is able to employ. I have listed a few that I have found to
be most effective below.

Assign people of widely differing perspectives to every team

1 or problem
2 Provide ways for employees say what no one wants to hear
3 Value constructive dissent, and encourage it
Establish clear criteria for deciding when decisions will be
4 made

3. If you are interested in making teamwork succeed within your organization,

you must implement a compensation system that combines both individual,
and team pay. Separating the individual and the team is important because
very rarely does one person work solely in a team setting. Any employee that
is only rewarded while working in a team setting, may exert less effort when
working individually if this is the case. The organization that I work with has a
system of this nature and I can personally attest to the idea that being
eligible for reward in both settings has a positive impact on the workforce as
a whole. For any organization without a compensation system, the model
below provides an example as to how to go about establishing one. It is
important to note that when designing incentives, proportionality is to be
taken very seriously.
4. By definition, communication is the transfer of a message that is both
received and understood. For communication to be effective, not only must
the message be received and understood, but it also must be acted on in the
desired manner of the person or persons that conveyed the original message.
For this action to take place and for communication to be effective;
persuasion, motivation, monitoring and leadership on the managers behalf, is
almost always required. In my own professional experience, effective
communication is the most crucial part of day to day operations. My
organization employs a workforce that consists of primarily non-English
speakers, and it is a constant struggle to ensure that communication is done
effectively. The best solution I have found to this issue is to get to know the
different workers on a more personal level, where we are able to connect
more easily.

5. Listening is the most important communication skill. Someone who engages

in conversation and thinks ahead to their response rather than listen
effectively, will almost never be able to accurately perceive the message that
is attempting to be spread to them. Listeners should be tuned in to the
provider of information, and in theory, they should be able to paraphrase the
message and repeat it back. Often times, even when listening actively, there
will be information that gets lost in translation. In this situation, it is important
to ask questions and communicate clearly with the presenter that you are
unclear. In the workplace, any questions that are not asked by someone who
should be listening, will be perceived as comprehension and there will be no
excuse for confusion later on. To be an effective listener, it is important that
the following inhibitors be avoided; lack of concentration, interruption,
preconceived ideas and thinking ahead.

6. There are 4 management strategies for quality focused interpersonal

needs/relationships. The first of these is Recognition of Need. What this
means is that in order for an organization to have employees with good
interpersonal skills, hiring managers must recognize the need for these skills.
When determining whether or not a prospective candidate is right for a
particular job, a manager must be gauging a persons interpersonal skills and
how they fit their needs. This screening process makes up the second
strategy and is called Careful Selection. The third strategy is Training.
There is no one person with perfect interpersonal skills. For some people,
these skills come naturally, for others they have been developed over time.
In both instances there is room for improvement. The final strategy is simply
referred to as Measurement and Reward. If managers value interpersonal
skills, these skills should be measured and positive appraisal should result in
reward.

7. The table below provides detail

on the principles of
overcoming negativity and avoiding conflict within
the workplace. Negativity has the ability to destroy an
organization internally through its employees and
their production, and
externally through their image
and consumer trust value. The
principles below should be studied and followed very closely.

8. As a manager, handling conflict is a normal and unavoidable aspect of the

modern workplace. Thus being said, a manager will focus a large amount of
time and focus towards preventing and resolving conflict. Along with
managing conflict, a manager may also be responsible for provoking civil
conflict at times to stimulate new ideas. This process combined together is
known as conflict management. Managers should follow clear guidelines
when it comes to resolving conflict. Examples of these guidelines include;
determining how important the issue is to all people involved, make sure that
both sides are responsible for both the problem and the solution, guide
participants toward a clear and specific definition of the problem, and finally,
reflect on the issue and discuss the conflict resolution process. It is important
to understand the people that you are managing before attempting to resolve
conflict. In the heat of the moment, different people will react differently and
it is important to know how to correctly approach team members in the
middle of a conflict.

9. When managing conflict that is producing negative results, and when

promoting conflict when stimulation is necessary communication is critical.
There are five guidelines that when followed are helpful in managing conflict.
The guidelines are as follows; the initial attitude of those involved can
predetermine the outcome, conflict guidelines should be in place before
conflict occurs, assessing blame should not be allowed, More of the same
solutions should be eliminated, and maintain trust by keeping all promises.
These guidelines are most effective when dealing with a co-worker on a very
personal level, in the event that the relationship is purely digital there are
additional steps that must be taken. From my experience, in a digital
economy, trust is more important than ever. To gain a persons trust requires
more effort, and can be lost much more easily. In any relationship that I seek
to gain trust, no matter the person, I always attempt to meet the person face
to face at least one time, in order to set a baseline of knowledge and prove
genuine. At the same time, you must be careful who you trust, a strategy that
I employ during this very digital age is to produce every critical direction or
instruction in writing, and archive these messages should an issue ever arise.

10.Quality will suffer in the event of a major conflict due to the fact that focus
will be shifted from quality, to conflict. Members of the organization may find
themselves so preoccupied with what has occurred, that they will cease to
focus on quality and the other important areas that promote quality within a
work place. This is where the job of the manager is most crucial, in times of
major conflict, the manager must make sure that all of their employees
remain focused on the big picture. Quality must be paramount to any conflict.
The digital economy in which we are living has an astounding effect on
quality during or after a major disruption. Social media and other sources of
mass media allow disruptions and conflict to be known to everyone almost
immediately. This makes focusing on quality even more difficult. Additionally,
this makes consumer feelings harder to control and maintain during conflict.
This makes the managers job much more complex and is a major reason why
organization and detail are so important.

New US Electricity Transmission Additions Could Have Significant Impact
For Wind Energy
Increases to America's electricity transmission network could lead to a future in
which US sources 20% of its electricity from wind by 2030 and 35% by 2050.
Consumer savings could reach as high as $2.3 to $3.4 billion annually, paying for
the cost of the electricity transmission upgrades in under five years. The four
proposed transmission lines are all located in the western US. The addition of these
four transmission lines would reduce annual curtailment by approximately 50%. As
far as how realistic these projects appear to be at the moment, my partner and both
highlighted the fact that the Trump administration has spoken in high favor towards
projects of this nature and the likelihood of it occurring is seemingly favorable. For
someone like myself who works for an organization that is involved in the
construction of transmission networks and is familiar with projects of this nature,
this goal seems to meet all of criteria for a SMART goal. Many people in the industry
are buzzing with excitement surrounding this development.

Total Corporate Solar Funding Drops 64% In 2016, According To Mercom

Corporate funding in the solar sector throughout 2016 reached $9.1 billion a 64%
decline over figures from 2015. 2017 conversely looks to be better than originally
anticipated due to lower module prices boosting installation levels. Specific
measuring has determining that the entire 64% decrease spread across all four
quarters of 2015.The bright spot of 2015 in relation to solar energy, were global
venture capital investments. More specifically, public market financing, large scale
project funding and corporate merger & acquisition transactions were all down. This
study is extremely time-based and it will be interesting to see how the numbers look
at the conclusion of 2017 as they will surely be looked at very closely. Additionally, it
seems that this is believed to be very realistic in terms of making a productive
comeback in 2017.

Tidal Lagoons Could Play Significant Role In UK Decarbonization Plans

Through independent research on the subject, it has been determined that
tidal lagoons could provide a cost-effective and secure supply of
decarbonized electricity in the UK. The UK has the second largest tidal range
in the world, second only to Canada there for this goal is potentially
attainable. This goal is measurable in the sense that Tidal energy could
provide more than 10% of UKs total power generation if 25 GW were to enter
the system by 2030 and that CO2 emissions would be reduced by 36% in. For
me, the goal of this project and how it would ultimately be completed is not
specific enough. Additionally, it is very complex and is a massive undertaking
therefore I strongly doubt whether or not it is realistic. Ideas like this one are
hard to believe as realistic because with how great the benefits appear to be,
you have no reason other than to question why it has not yet been done.
When discussing this subject with my partner, we both are in strong
argreement that the time based aspect of this goal is not likely, and it would
be a long time until results were realized.

Discussion With Partner (Harvir Sanghera) On the 3 Articles:

New US Electricity Transmission Additions Could Have Significant Impact
For Wind Energy
-Limiting the advancement of the power grid could cost significantly.potential
growth in the sector can save $2.3 to $3.4 billion annually.
-Twenty percent of electric power in 2030 could be produced by wind, thirty five
percent by 2050.
-With the current administration, an increase of private investment opportunities
may arise.

agreeability :
can we agrese that an increase in spending will help build the infrastructure?
-I say yes it will help the country.
Private investment maybe happen during this administration:
-I agree it will

Timebased:
-If the current policies are left in place it will slow the development of the grid. And
the projected time line will fail.
Total Corporate Solar Funding Drops 64% In 2016, According To Mercom
- The funding of solar fell in 2016 from The projected values
- 2017 the sales should increase because of the cheaper pricing for the units.
- 68 corporations merged and acquisitions in 2016, vs 81 in 2015
- speaking from what i have seen with EWB (engineers without borders) sales should
increase with a lower initial price.

Tidal Lagoons Could Play Significant Role In UK Decarbonization Plans

-a review by former energy minister charles hendry was published in jan
-In the review was alternative energy produced by tidal waves.
-tidal waved produce 10 of energy in the uk, esftimated that in 2030 25 gw will be
produced by the system
- reduction of c02 would be roughly 36% in 2035
-I personally agree with the technology, the only part that is questionable is the fact
that salt water shortens the lifespan of object in or around water.
- this might not be as realistic as the other types of sources. From the report tidal
power sources just got implemented and they are showing a good yield that why
more project are being developed. The problem i see is funding for these project will
be hard to come
- Times based this does not look good because without funding the research will not
be there.
