Conclusion:

States with higher gun ownership decrease in violent crimes

According to a U.S Dept of Justice report, In 2010, the rate of firearm homicide for males was

6.2 per 100,000, and 1.1 firearm homicide for females . Firearm homicide for males declined by

49% (from 12.0 per 100,000 males in 1993 to 6.2 in 2010), and for females a 51% decline,

(from 2.3 per 100,000 females in 1993 to 1.1 in 2010).

Nearly 40% of those who are serving time in either state prisons or federal prisons for crimes

where a firearm were used obtained it from an illegal source.

In 2007-11, there were 235,700 victimizations where the victim used a firearm to threaten or

attack an offender. The same report revealed instances where the victim was armed with a

firearm, the offender was also armed with a gun in 32% of the victimizations, compared to 63%

of victimizations where the offender was armed with a lesser weapon, such as a knife, or

unarmed.

The number of gang-related homicides reported from 2007 to 2012 is displayed by area type and

population size. https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2011/crime-in-the-u.s.-2011/tables/table-1

From the years 2007 to2012, over 80 percent of respondents provided data on gang-

related homicides in their jurisdictions.

Gang homicides reported by respondents in the NYGS sample averaged nearly 2,000

annually from 2007 to 2012. During this time (2007 to 2011), the FBI estimated, more

than 15,500 homicides across the United States (www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-

the-u.s/2011/crime-in-the-u.s.-2011/tables/table-1). These estimates suggest that gang-

related homicides typically accounted for around 13 percent of all homicides annually.

With the increasing number of gangs in the Wilmington, Seaford, Milford and Dover, DE

a very distinct correlation can be paralleled in the amount of violent crimes where an

illegal firearm is used against a victim

Highly populated areas accounted for the vast majority of gang homicides: nearly 67

percent occurred in cities with populations over 100,000, and 17 percent occurred in

suburban counties in 2012

Overall, these results demonstrate conclusively gang violence and the majority of firearms used

are either obtained illegally or are in possession of a firearm illegally.

The increase in gun violence in Delaware while the state has the lowest percentage of people

who legally own firearms, compared studies conducted by the FBI and Dept of Justice showing a

decline in violent crimes where a firearm was used running parallel with an increase in legal gun

ownership in the U.S. from 1993-2010 clearly indicates there is a need for more firearm industry

businesses in Delaware
The firearms industry in other states is well positioned to finish the year in a promising position.,

demand for firearms in the U.S. is strong as consumers remain concerned about being

responsible for their personal safety.

For example Ruger wihich is made in Arizona manufactures the American Pistol, Precision

Rifle, AR-556 MSR and LC9s pistol, their revenues represented $50.3 million (29%) of firearm

sales in the first quarter of 2016. And according to Fifer, Q1 2016 earnings delivered Rugers

second highest revenue weve ever enjoyed and the third highest earnings it has 1,230 full-time

staff. The company also has 49% of its employees who have been with the company at least 10

years. With factories in Newport, New Hampshire and Prescott, Arizona.

Remington states it is the largest employer in domestic firearms and ammunition manufacturing

with over 2,600 employees. Worldwide employment is more than 3,000.

In March 2016, Smith & Wesson reported its 2016 third quarter sales, which ended Jan. 31,

increased 61.5 percent over the same quarter in 2015. Net sales totaled $210.8 million; firearms

division net sales were $194.7 million, a 56.4 percent increase. Accessories division sales were

$16.1 million, compared to $6.1 million for the comparable quarter last year (a period in which

S&W acquired Battenfeld Technologies, and therefore reported only six weeks of accessories

division sales). The company has 1,600 employees with factories in Springfield, Massachusetts

and Houlton, Maine.

The firearms industry contributes more than $33 billion to the U.S. economy and supports about

220,000 jobs, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation. Double the revenue the

contributed by General Motors, which President Barack Obama called a pillar of our economy

Idaho considers the firearms business an important piece of the economy and is home to one of

the largest U.S. ammunition manufacturers, ATK Sporting Idaho has been attracting gun-related

businesses away from other states that have enacted stricter gun controls or raised corporate

taxes. Idahos firearms businesses generate $512.7 million in revenue and provide 3,116 jobs in

the state, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation.

There has also been a growing interest in hunting and shooting sports among younger

generations, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, that estimates sales of

firearms and ammunition for hunting and shooting sports rose in 2012 to a record $6 billion.
Jake McGuigan, the director of government relations for the National Shooting Sports

Foundation stated in an interview,

There are a lot of smaller manufacturers that support a very large base of suppliers, McGuigan

said. These kinds of small, independent businesses are really the backbone of the U.S.

economy, not the GMs, Wal-Marts and other big businesses.
