Traffic congestion is a big problem for everyone within the city. The main reasons why traffic congestion
occurs are more cars, poor road management, and poor practices on behalf of employers.
One of the main reasons why theres more congestion is due to more cars on the road. The adult population
is increasing and therefore more people want their own personal transport to get around with. As the
number of cars increase the chance of congestion also increases. Its why in smaller towns and villages
congestion is almost unheard of.

According to the fifth annual Traffic Index report released in March by GPS manufacturer TomTom, traffic in Los Angeles is
literally the worst. But the countys traffic woes were set in motion, so to speak, long before it would see the population boom of
the 20th and 21st centuries. From 1895 to 1945, the Los Angeles Railway, or Yellow Cars as they were known, replaced cable
cars as the citys main mode of transport. For a time, it was part of the largest urban rail network in the world, and the Yellow Cars

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL A study by Dutch transport technology company TomTom has revealed that Rio de Janeiro has the
third worst traffic in the world for the second time in a row. The study used transportation data collected through GPS from 146 big
cities and ranked them according to their traffic congestion through the entire day.
Rios main form of public transport is the bus. These always run more frequently during rush hour. There are almost four hundred
and forty municipal bus lines serving over four million passengers each day, in addition to intercity lines.
Brazil's public transportation service has been a target of many critics and sparked the 2013 protests that started in So Paulo
and spread through the entire country. People were unhappy with the fare increases considering the low quality of service
available.

According to TomTom, a Dutch navigation firm, Bangkok's traffic moves 57% slower on
average compared with a clear road situation. During morning peak hours, it slows to a further
85%, and a snail-like 114% in the evening.

Mexico City has taken the top spot as the city with the most traffic congestion, according to a new
report. Drivers in the Mexican capital can expect to spend on average, 59% extra travel time stuck in

The Philippines is the fifth country in the world with the worst traffic conditions, according to the
online database Numbeo. The Philippines had a traffic index score of 201.31 based on Numbeos
Traffic Index for Country 2015 Mid-Year report traffic Index is a composite index of time consumed

reported that average one-way commuting and traveling time or time index in the Philippines
spans 46.09 minutes before people reach their destination.
This problem may dont have an immediate and exact solution, but our law makers are trying to
propose regulations that will somehow give assistance to the never ending problem of heavy
traffic in the Philippines. Car buyers will have to show proof that they have an available parking
space before they can own a vehicle should lawmakers pass the no garage, no car" policy into
law. The House Committee on Transportation on Wednesday (September 23) tackled House Bill
5098, also known as the Proof of Parking Space Act, or the "no garage, no car policy" measure.
The bill would require buyers of new vehicles to provide the Land Transportation Office (LTO) with
proof that they have parking space. Valenzuela Rep. Sherwin Gatchalian said the measure, which
is already being practiced in Japan and India, will prevent Metro Manila from turning into a big
parking space. But as early as now, Albay Rep. Fernando Gonzalez, committee vice chairman,is
already questioning the measure, saying buyers should not be restricted from owning a car.
Meanwhile, Chief Supt. Arnold Gunnacao, head of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG), said car

parking space before selling cars to them.

Traffic Policies are the set of rules or guidelines that drivers even commuters should follow to have a smooth
traffic flow and avoid unnecessary road accidents. According to the Daily Inquirer, ten thousand (10,000)
vehicular accidents was recorded on the first four (4) months of 2016. The increase in the frequency of
vehicular accidents highlights the pressing need to reassess current road safety rules and regulations and to
initiate appropriate legislation to curb the significant number of injuries and casualties caused by non-compliance
with traffic and road safety rules and regulations, it said.
People, even children of school age, should be educated about safety road measures and traffic rules and
regulations in order to avert or decrease the alarming number of vehicular accidents since majority of the
casualties were caused by human errors. Recently, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority
(MMDA) installed CCTVs along major roads like EDSA and C5 to further monitor the passing vehicles. In Pasig
City, Along C5, they implemented the truck lane policy so that regular vehicles can pass through without the fear
of being bumped or run through by the trucks. Although the Philippines have different set of traffic guidelines, the
commuters and drivers do not follow them because some of the rules are not being implemented properly.
Especially now that you can get away with anything if you have money. The government should invest in
advanced technologies to lessen the traffic violators. CCTVs with 360 degree views should be installed not only
in major roads but also in the national roads or streets with lots of vehicular activity. Alternatively, Automobile
Speed Violation Detection System can also be installed and then the violation receipt can be emailed or mailed
to the drivers house. Therefore, the violators can have no reason to pay his/her dues. Radar Speedometer is
also one of the new technologies to regulate the speed of the vehicles. If the car has reached the maximum
speed of a certain area it will be transported/ reported to a server then the server will e-mail or mail the violator
or the server can alarm the car itself.
Proper road etiquette follows proper implementation of rules. If the police or the government itself do not follow
the rules they have created themselves, how can they expect the people that they govern to follow also? It will
take months- even years- to fix the mindset of the people about the traffic rules because people got used to
getting away with their violations. So, strict implementation of the rules should be done in order to proper
educate them and avoid unwanted road accidents.
