Traffic congestion is a big problem for everyone within the city. The main reasons why traffic congestion
occurs are more cars, poor road management, and poor practices on behalf of employers.

One of the main reasons why theres more congestion is due to more cars on the road. The adult population
is increasing and therefore more people want their own personal transport to get around with. As the
number of cars increase the chance of congestion also increases. Its why in smaller towns and villages
congestion is almost unheard of.

According to the fifth annual Traffic Index report released in March by GPS manufacturer TomTom, traffic in Los Angeles is
literally the worst. But the countys traffic woes were set in motion, so to speak, long before it would see the population boom of
the 20th and 21st centuries. From 1895 to 1945, the Los Angeles Railway, or Yellow Cars as they were known, replaced cable
cars as the citys main mode of transport. For a time, it was part of the largest urban rail network in the world, and the Yellow Cars
were known for years as the vital cog in the citys transportation system.

Brazil's Recife is the most congested city in south America.

An average evening rush hour journey is delayed by over 24 minutes. Add in morning delays, and
that means drivers lose 94 hours behind the wheel each year.

Overall, Brazil is inhabited with 2.675 million people as of the year 2010, in the year 2011, the number
of vehicles in Salvador, Brazil went up to 249 vehicles per 1000 people, so in a daily basis, it is
evident that the traffic congestion is expected to occur in Salvador, Brazil, Salvador, is a well-built city
in Brazil, considering, roadways, flyovers, bridges, this structures are supposed to be the solution to
the traffic problem, but considering the overwhelming number of vehicles, heavy traffic is still
expected to happen.

In Bucharest, the rush hours for car traffic are 7:00-9:00, and 16:00-18:00, shows the 2016-2030
interim report. Bucharest is a major intersection of Romania's national road network. A few of the
busiest national roads and motorways link the city to all of Romania's major cities, as well as to
neighbouring countries such as Hungary, Bulgaria and Ukraine. The A1 to Piteti, the A2 Sun
Motorway to the Dobrogea region and Constanta and the A3 to Ploieti all start from Bucharest. The
city's municipal road network is centred around a series of high-capacity boulevards, which generally
radiate out from the city centre to the outskirts. The main axes, which run north-south, east-west and
northwest-southeast, as well as one internal and one external ring road, support the bulk of the traffic.
The city's roads are usually very crowded during rush hours, due to an increase in car ownership in
recent years. In 2013, the number of cars registered in Bucharest amounted to 1,125,591.

Moscow Traffic is rated as the Worlds Worst by the Dutch GPS Manufacturer, every day the capital
metro is overloaded by 20 % on average and typical traffic jam lasts 2.5 hours daily (Moscow is 8th in
the world in terms of traffic jam duration). The current situation can be characterized as transport
collapse. The problem began after the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991, when people in Russia
began to buy cars en masse. Over the years the explosion in car ownership had an increasingly
negative effect on traffic in large cities around the country, though predictably traffic jams remain
worst in Moscow.
Between 1992 and 2010, the guiding principle for the Moscow city authorities' approach to traffic
congestion was: There are too many cars, so we need to expand the road network, explains
Konstantin Trofimenko, head of the transport studies center of the Higher School of Economics.

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL A study by Dutch transport technology company TomTom has revealed that Rio de Janeiro has the
third worst traffic in the world for the second time in a row. The study used transportation data collected through GPS from 146 big
cities and ranked them according to their traffic congestion through the entire day.

Rios main form of public transport is the bus. These always run more frequently during rush hour. There are almost four hundred
and forty municipal bus lines serving over four million passengers each day, in addition to intercity lines.
Brazil's public transportation service has been a target of many critics and sparked the 2013 protests that started in So Paulo
and spread through the entire country. People were unhappy with the fare increases considering the low quality of service
available.

City buses are reasonably cheap, with air conditioned buses costing more than non-air conditioned buses. The system is
relatively safe by day but less so at night.

economic loss for the economy every year due to prolonged delays in travel, transportation of goods
and the high level of gasoline consumption.

Thailand and the Philippines are among the top 5 countries globally with the worst traffic
conditions, according to a new ranking by online database Numbeo. While Thailand ranks high
in inefficiency of its traffic system and high carbon dioxide emissions, the worst of Philippine
traffic is time wasted on congested roads. Looking just at Asia, Thailand tops the ranking ahead
of Iran, the Philippines, Turkey, India and Indonesia.

Bangkok, Thailand's capital, is known for having one of the worst traffics in the whole
Southeast Asia. A new study shows that Thailand ranked second in the Worlds most traffic
congested Cities around the world just behind Mexico City.
According to TomTom, a Dutch navigation firm, Bangkok's traffic moves 57% slower on
average compared with a clear road situation. During morning peak hours, it slows to a further
85%, and a snail-like 114% in the evening.

Mexico City has taken the top spot as the city with the most traffic congestion, according to a new
report. Drivers in the Mexican capital can expect to spend on average, 59% extra travel time stuck in
traffic anytime of the day, and up to 103% in the evening peak periods versus a free flow, or
uncongested, situation adding-up to 219 hours of extra travel time per year, per the results of the
TomTom Traffic Index 2016 released by TomTom.

Mexico Citys land area of 1,485 km2 sheltering a population of 21.2 million people, and a density of
14,000/km2 makes it the largest metropolitan area of the worlds western hemisphere in 2015
according to the UN. There are over 3.5 million cars there although 70%-80% of the estimated 30
million trips to the city each day are public transportation, including the 4.5 million trips on Mexico
Citys 125 mile subway system.

The Philippines is the fifth country in the world with the worst traffic conditions, according to the
online database Numbeo. The Philippines had a traffic index score of 201.31 based on Numbeos
Traffic Index for Country 2015 Mid-Year report traffic Index is a composite index of time consumed
in traffic due to job commute, estimation of time consumption dissatisfaction, carbon dioxide
consumption estimation in traffic, and overall inefficiencies in the traffic system. The study
reported that average one-way commuting and traveling time or time index in the Philippines
spans 46.09 minutes before people reach their destination.

This problem may dont have an immediate and exact solution, but our law makers are trying to
propose regulations that will somehow give assistance to the never ending problem of heavy
traffic in the Philippines. Car buyers will have to show proof that they have an available parking
space before they can own a vehicle should lawmakers pass the no garage, no car" policy into
law. The House Committee on Transportation on Wednesday (September 23) tackled House Bill
5098, also known as the Proof of Parking Space Act, or the "no garage, no car policy" measure.
The bill would require buyers of new vehicles to provide the Land Transportation Office (LTO) with
proof that they have parking space. Valenzuela Rep. Sherwin Gatchalian said the measure, which
is already being practiced in Japan and India, will prevent Metro Manila from turning into a big
parking space. But as early as now, Albay Rep. Fernando Gonzalez, committee vice chairman,is
already questioning the measure, saying buyers should not be restricted from owning a car.
Meanwhile, Chief Supt. Arnold Gunnacao, head of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG), said car
dealers or manufacturers should also be responsible and should request buyers for proof of
parking space before selling cars to them.

Traffic Policies are the set of rules or guidelines that drivers even commuters should follow to have a smooth
traffic flow and avoid unnecessary road accidents. According to the Daily Inquirer, ten thousand (10,000)
vehicular accidents was recorded on the first four (4) months of 2016. The increase in the frequency of
vehicular accidents highlights the pressing need to reassess current road safety rules and regulations and to
initiate appropriate legislation to curb the significant number of injuries and casualties caused by non-compliance
with traffic and road safety rules and regulations, it said.

People, even children of school age, should be educated about safety road measures and traffic rules and
regulations in order to avert or decrease the alarming number of vehicular accidents since majority of the
casualties were caused by human errors. Recently, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority
(MMDA) installed CCTVs along major roads like EDSA and C5 to further monitor the passing vehicles. In Pasig
City, Along C5, they implemented the truck lane policy so that regular vehicles can pass through without the fear
of being bumped or run through by the trucks. Although the Philippines have different set of traffic guidelines, the
commuters and drivers do not follow them because some of the rules are not being implemented properly.
Especially now that you can get away with anything if you have money. The government should invest in
advanced technologies to lessen the traffic violators. CCTVs with 360 degree views should be installed not only
in major roads but also in the national roads or streets with lots of vehicular activity. Alternatively, Automobile
Speed Violation Detection System can also be installed and then the violation receipt can be emailed or mailed
to the drivers house. Therefore, the violators can have no reason to pay his/her dues. Radar Speedometer is
also one of the new technologies to regulate the speed of the vehicles. If the car has reached the maximum
speed of a certain area it will be transported/ reported to a server then the server will e-mail or mail the violator
or the server can alarm the car itself.

Proper road etiquette follows proper implementation of rules. If the police or the government itself do not follow
the rules they have created themselves, how can they expect the people that they govern to follow also? It will
take months- even years- to fix the mindset of the people about the traffic rules because people got used to
getting away with their violations. So, strict implementation of the rules should be done in order to proper
educate them and avoid unwanted road accidents.

The idea was proposed by a local architecture firm

named Archion Architects. The project aims to construct
a semi-privately owned elevated walkways throughout
EDSA to lessen the traffic and reduce the use of cars
by promoting the use of bicycles.

The proposed elevated walkways will start from the

North Avenue Station (MRT) up to the SM Mall of Asia.
It is a PWD-friendly infrastructure that is aesthetically
made to also increase the greeneries on highways.
