Summary:
This report summarizes the importance of English in
engineers life. It is spoken in almost half of the world and
still is spreading very briskly. Although it is a foreign
language but in Pakistan it is the official language that tells
the success story of this language.

Introduction:

This report basically tells us how important English is to

engineers.
It tells us the use of English in engineers life. We can see
that the large projects require different engineers and when
they have to coordinate with each other they use English as
their language. English nowadays is a kind of universal
language that is well known among almost half of the
worlds countries.

WHAT IS LANGUAGE?

Language is a method which is used to communicate with

other people, to express our thoughts and feelings, to fulfill
our needs and to establish a special culture.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE:

English is a foreign language for us but it has become

national language because of its importance. It has become

most common language and is spoken in most parts of the
world. About half of the world speaks English. It is the
national language of some most advance countries of the
world. It connects us with the whole universe.

English contain a huge vocabulary, expressions and a rich

culture.

English is a western language and firstly it was spoken in the

western parts of the world, but now days it is the second
language and it is official language of most of the countries
of the world including Pakistan.

In a student's social life, English language is the most

important. It helps to make strong relationship and better
understanding among fellow students

For success in any field, one has to know, understand and

communicate efficiently. In the period of globalization,
communication skills are the input to success.

The English language is now a link language of international

business, technology and research. About 1.8 billion speak
English and their number is still rising.

Importance for engineers:

We may develop ourselves economically, politically, and

within society through English language. Our development in
the field of science and technology will be possible if we
learnt to speak, read and write English language.

The English language is a type tool for professional success,

allowing us to share with other cultures around the world;
something is considered the language of communications.
English is established as a fundamental means in the overall
education of future engineers.

English is one of the widely spoken languages around the
world. For an engineer and engineering student, English
language regularity is important both in studies and
profession.

The modern world demands the use of different skills to
function successfully in the professional field.
Those skills are necessary means of gaining knowledge
about new technologies and science and in entering the field
of business. Their learning is no longer a luxury, but a
necessity. Therefore it is said that

One who is not confident in that language would

be a drawback to other professionals?

Decades ago, there was a false impression about the

importance of English to engineers. Engineers were
considered to be people who were always doing technical
things at the back of stage.

Therefore, it was thought that English is not playing an

important part in their career. However, more and more
people are holding another view that English is a necessary
part for an engineer. The change of people's view may also
disclose the important change of order for engineering skills.

Engineering is one of the largest fields of study and many of

the works of research and academics are recorded in
English. Without smoothness in English, engineering
students may find it difficult to understand the concept being
conveyed by the authors. Also, many modules in engineering
require writing educational reports. Hence, a good flow and
hold of English language is necessary.

IMPORTANCE FOR COMMUNICATION

Most of the theories are taught in English language. For this

reason, a probable level of proficiency in English language
would be essential.

English is important for communication in a large project
team. As a matter of fact, big project teams consisting tens
or hundreds of engineers are very common nowadays. There
is a trend that projects will need teams with more and more
engineers to support. In this sense, engineers need to have a
good knowledge of the English language to increase the
efficiency in association and quality in productivity. With the
environment of globalization, there are many chances of a
project team containing engineers from different countries.
Due to the difference in education and culture, they may
have different approaches to a same problem. Only by
communicating successfully, collisions and misconception
would be minimized with inspirations produced.

To study out of the country in some of the best universities in

the world, students have to take up regular tests to prove
their English language ability. These tests play a most
important role for admissions to most of the universities in a
foreign country. These tests are measurements carried out to
make certain that the students from non-English speaking
countries are able to write, pay attention, and communicate
in English confidently.

Engineers today have to communicate with their

counterparts from corner to corner the world among most of
the professionals like the scientists, technologists and
business experts who are in the right place to different
literary and linguistic backgrounds; English is primarily
measured to be a language of communication.

IMPORTANCE IN CAREER:

In today's world, employers look for graduates with good

communication skills, beside with technological engineering
knowledge.

Having good communication skills is a valuable asset for any

organization. Professionals with strong hold on English
language are set in higher level of values in the organization.

The importance of English also lies in the advertising of
engineers' designs. The reality is that most of the techniques
developed for solving a same problem would be similar or at
least not easily distinguishable. Thus, Engineers need the
skill to sell the best points of the design, to make people
believe in the value of his/her design.

Since most problems are acknowledged in English, then

obviously one has to be aware of (read/write) English in
order to solve the problems.,

Practically it can be said that this is the language of the

world. Every day it is used more in approximately all areas of
knowledge.

It is easy to see the importance of English to engineers.

In winding up, English is playing an important role in the
profession of engineers.
