1. DESIGN INFORMATION

Introduction

This report present the FEM Plaxis analyses of temporary shoring works design
for construction of basement and analysis the impact / deformation to the
surrounding for the project Proposed New Erection Of A 2-Storey Terraced
House With An Attic On Lot 04595c Mk 17 At No 4 Merryn Terrace (Novena
Planning Area)

The excavation involve at construction Rc trench basement works at gridline 6/A-

C with maximum 3.5m depth from existing ground level using sheetpile with 1
layer of horizontal strut as shown in Section A-A.

Code of Practice

All civil and structural works are designed according to the latest edition of the
following relevant Standards and Codes of Practice:

SN EN 1990 Basis Of Structural Design

SN EN 1991 Action On Structures
SN EN 1992 Design Of Concrete Structures
SN EN 1993 Design Of Steel Structures
SS EN 1997 Geotechnical Design

BCA Advisory Note 1/09 On Deep Excavation
BCA Design Consideration for Earth Retaining or Stabilising
Structures
BCA Approved Document Acceptable Solution
BCA The Building Control (Amendment) Regulation 2014
Design Loading

The design has allowed for the following loads:

- General Surcharge Loading 10 kPa for sheetpile/soldier pile

- Earth Lateral Pressure

- Water Pressure

Design Consideration for TERS

Due to short construction period, undrained soil behavior was analyzed in

software.
Total Stress Soil Parameters were used.
Reduction of Soil Parameters is considered as per requirement.
Ground water table considered at 1m. (Soil report show W.L. 1.8m from
existing GL)
Pore pressure distribution using Steady-State groundwater flow calculation
0.5m of Over - Excavation (Unplanned excavation) is considered.
10kPa Surcharge Load is considered.
One Strut Failure case was considered.

Steel Section for Sheetpile

The minimum characteristic strength of the re-used sheetpile shall be as follows:

S275 275 N/mm2

Geological Profile / Site Condition

The design ground condition for the design of TERS is based on the 1 no borelog
information given in the soil report. 5 type of soil report profiles are used in the
analysis.

The soil report profiles and properties are summarized in the table as shown in the
design analysis part

2 CONCLUSION

Based on the design calculation and software analysis, we conclude the proposed
temporary works for excavation basement works sufficient to withstand the
design load. And the impact to the existing facilities ( i.e road and ex buildings)
are minor for both construction basement works.

For safety reason, necessary monitoring points will be installed on site around the
shaft and along the perimeter boundary monitor the movement of shaft and
surrounding soil. And site supervisor should give instruction based on the result
of and our proposed alert and suspension levels are as follow :

Alert Level Work Suspension Level

Ground Settlement/
Building settlement 17 mm 25 mm
marker
Lateral Movement 17 mm 25 mm
Tilt plate 1/700 (angle) 1/500 (angle)

Precaution measures to safeguard the integrity of the surrounding

buildings and the contingency measures to be taken should damages
occur arising out of construction works

The contractors site supervisor and RTO shall be present on site during
excavation and basement works to monitor and soil movement around the
excavation site. With neighbors permission, external walls of the surrounding
houses shall on frequent basis for any new cracks arising or existing cracks
becoming larger or for any appreciable settlement. Should these occur, the
contractor should stop all works immediately. A through investigation will be
conducted by all the part or if existing cracks were to become worse, the
contractor is to quickly rectify such cracks before the recommence.
