1 Model general description
The ABB REL 670 relay model consists of a main relay model and 14 sub relays:

- PDIF 87
- PIOC
- PTOC 51N 67N
- PTOC 51_67
- PTOF PTUF PFRC 81
- PTUV 27 PTOV 59 59N
- RPSB 78
- SC RDIR (directional logic for series compensated line elements)
- TEF
- TOC2
- TOC3
- ZMCPDIS (series compensated line polygonal distance zones)
- ZMHPDIS (mho zones)
- ZMHPDIS (polygonal distance zones)

The main relay contains the sub relays, the measurement elements, the starting element, the polarizing elements, the
directional element for the distance elements used without the serial compensation and the output logic.

More in detail the following functionalities are modelled in the main relay.

Three measurement units (Measure, Remote measure and Delta Measure block). Please dont forget to insert
the nominal current and the nominal voltage in all blocks.
One starting unit implementing the phase selection logic (Phase Selector block)
One load encroachment element (PHS Load Area block)
One directional element (Dir-Z block). This directional characteristic is not used by the distance elements present
inside the ZMCPDIS sub relay
Two polarizing blocks (Polarizing andPolarizing20 block). Please note that no user input is usually needed in these
blocks.

The following functionalities are modelled in the subrelays:

PDIF 87 subrelay:
One high impedance differential trip element (U> Trip)
One high impedance differential alarm element (U> Alarm). Please note that in the default scheme such element is
not operating any external signal.

PIOC sub relay:


One time defined phase overcurrent element (PIOC 50 block)
One time defined residual overcurrent element (PIOC 50N block)

PTOC 51N 67N sub relay:
Four directional inverse characteristic zero sequence overcurrent elements (PTOC 51N_67N 1, PTOC 51N_67N 2,
PTOC 51N_67N 3, PTOC 51N_67N 4 and Dir PTOC N block)
One inrush restraint element implementing a 2nd harmonic threshold (2nd harmonic Stab block)

PTOC 51 67 sub relay:


Four directional inverse characteristic phase overcurrent elements (PTOC 51_67 1, PTOC 51_67 2, PTOC 51_67
3, PTOC 51_67 4 and Dir PTOC block)
One inrush restraint element implementing a 2nd harmonic threshold (2nd harmonic Stab block)

PTOF PTUF PFRC 81 sub relay:


Two under frequency elements with undervoltage blocking (TUF 1 and TUF1 intBlockLevel, TUF 2 and TUF2
intBlockLevel block)
One over frequency elements with undervoltage blocking (TOF and TOF1 intBlockLevel block)
Two rate of change frequency elements with undervoltage blocking (FRC1 and FRC1 intBlockLevel, FRC2 and
FRC2 intBlockLevel block)

PTUV 27 PTOV 59 59N sub relay:

Two phase undervoltage inverse characteristic elements (U1< and U2<block)


Two phase overvoltage inverse characteristic elements (U1> and U2> block)
Two zero sequence overvoltage inverse characteristic elements (U1N> and U2N> block)

RPSB 78 subrelay:
One power swing detector element; its based on the monitoring of the system impedance position as related to two
concentric shapes (outer and inner zone) in the R-X diagram ( Power Swing block)
The Outerzone defined by a polygonal distance zone and a load encroachment element (Outer zone and Outer
Load Area block )
The Innerzone defined by a polygonal distance zone and a load encroachment element (Inner zone and Inner
Load Area block )

SC RDIR subrelay: it provides the directional logic for the distance elements used to protect the series compensated lines
One impedance starting condition detector including a load encroachment element (ZDS1 and Load Area ZDS1
block)
One phase-phase and one phase-ground minimum current starting elements releasing the impedance stating detector
(ZDS1 IMinOpPP and ZDS1 IMinOpPE block)
One polarizing block using the faulted phases information coming from the impedance starting condition detector
(Polarizing block)
One distance directional element (Dir-Z block)

TEF sub relay:


One directional inverse characteristic zero sequence overcurrent element with minimum activation threshold and
additional trip delay (TEF, TEF tLow and TEF Imin block)

TOC subrelay:
One inverse characteristic phase overcurrent element (TOC Phase block)
One inverse characteristic residual overcurrent element (TOC Residual block)

TOC2 sub relay:

One not directional inverse characteristic phase overcurrent element with minimum activation threshold and
additional trip delay (Toc2, Toc2 tLow and Toc2 I>Low block)
One time defined phase overcurrent element (Toc2 I>High block)

TOC3 sub relay:
One not directional inverse characteristic phase overcurrent element with minimum activation threshold and
additional trip delay (Toc3, Toc3 tLow and Toc3 I>Low block)
One time defined phase overcurrent element (Toc3 I>High block)

ZMCPDIS sub relay:


Five phase-phase and phase-ground loop polygonal distance zones with separated timers for phase and ground loops
(ZMC1 with ZMC1 tPP and ZMC1 tPE timer, ZMC2 with ZMC2 tPP and ZMC2 tPE timer, ZMC3 with ZMC3
tPP and ZMC3 tPE timer, ZMC4 with ZMC4 tPP and ZMC4 tPE timer, ZMC5 with ZMC5 tPP and ZMC5 tPE
timer block ).
Five minimum phase-phase loop current starting elements (ZMC1 IMinOpPP, ZMC2 IMinOpPP, ZMC3 IMinOpPP,
ZMC4 IMinOpPP and ZMC5 IMinOpPP block)
Five minimum phase-ground loop current starting elements (ZMC1 IMinOpPE, ZMC2 IMinOpPE, ZMC3
IMinOpPE, ZMC4 IMinOpPE and ZMC5 IMinOpPE block)
One minimum zero sequence loop current starting element controlling zone 1 polygonal shape (ZMC1 IMinOpN
block)

ZMHPDIS sub relay:


Five phase-phase loop mho distance zones with the relevant timers (ZMH1 PP and ZMH1 tPP, ZMH2 PP and
ZMH2 tPP, ZMH3 PP and ZMH3 tPP, ZMH4 PP and ZMH4 tPP, ZMH5 PP and ZMH5 tPPblock ).
Five phase-ground loop mho distance zones with the relevant timers (ZMH1 PE and ZMH1 tPE, ZMH2 PE and
ZMH2 tPE, ZMH3 PE and ZMH3 tPE, ZMH4 PE and ZMH4 tPE, ZMH5 PE and ZMH5 tPEblock ).
Five minimum current starting elements releasing both the phase and the ground mho zones (ZMH1 IMinOp,
ZMH2 IMinOp, ZMH3 IMinOp, ZMH4 IMinOp and ZMH5 IMinOp block)
Five polarizing elements (ZMH1 KN, ZMH2 KN, ZMH3 KN, ZMH4 KN and ZMH5 KN block)

ZMQPDIS sub relay:


Five phase-phase and phase-ground loop polygonal distance zones with separated timers for phase and ground loops
(ZMQ1 with ZMQ1 tPP and ZMQ1 tPE timer, ZMQ2 with ZMQ2 tPP and ZMQ2 tPE timer, ZMQ3 with
ZMQ3 tPP and ZMQ3 tPE timer , ZMQ4 with ZMQ4 tPP and ZMQ4 tPE timer, ZMQ5 with ZMQ5 tPP and
ZMQ5 tPE timer block ).
Five minimum phase-phase loop current starting elements (ZMQ1 IMinOpPP, ZMQ2 IMinOpPP, ZMQ3

One minimum zero sequence loop current starting element controlling zone 1 polygonal shape (ZMQ1 IMinOpN
block)

The ABB REL 670 model can be configured to support the following additional features:

o POTT (Permissive overreach transfer trip) scheme. It can be enabled setting equal to TRIP the POTTTRIP
variable in the logic tab page of the ZMCPDIS Output Logic, ZMHPDIS Output Logic and ZMQPDIS Output
Logic block dialog.

o Single phase trip. It can be enabled setting equal to TRIP the single_pole_trip variable in the logic tab page of
the ZMCPDIS Output Logic, ZMHPDIS Output Logic and ZMQPDIS Output Logic block dialog.

o Two phases trip. It can be enabled setting equal to TRIP the two_poles_trip variable in the logic tab page of the
ZMCPDIS Output Logic, ZMHPDIS Output Logic and ZMQPDIS Output Logic block dialog.

2 Relay not supported features
