The main relay contains the sub relays, the measurement elements, the starting element, the polarizing elements, the
directional element for the distance elements used without the serial compensation and the output logic.
More in detail the following functionalities are modelled in the main relay.
Three measurement units (Measure, Remote measure and Delta Measure block). Please dont forget to insert
the nominal current and the nominal voltage in all blocks.
One starting unit implementing the phase selection logic (Phase Selector block)
One load encroachment element (PHS Load Area block)
One directional element (Dir-Z block). This directional characteristic is not used by the distance elements present
inside the ZMCPDIS sub relay
Two polarizing blocks (Polarizing andPolarizing20 block). Please note that no user input is usually needed in these
blocks.
PDIF 87 subrelay:
One high impedance differential trip element (U> Trip)
One high impedance differential alarm element (U> Alarm). Please note that in the default scheme such element is
not operating any external signal.
RPSB 78 subrelay:
One power swing detector element; its based on the monitoring of the system impedance position as related to two
concentric shapes (outer and inner zone) in the R-X diagram ( Power Swing block)
The Outerzone defined by a polygonal distance zone and a load encroachment element (Outer zone and Outer
Load Area block )
The Innerzone defined by a polygonal distance zone and a load encroachment element (Inner zone and Inner
Load Area block )
SC RDIR subrelay: it provides the directional logic for the distance elements used to protect the series compensated lines
One impedance starting condition detector including a load encroachment element (ZDS1 and Load Area ZDS1
block)
One phase-phase and one phase-ground minimum current starting elements releasing the impedance stating detector
(ZDS1 IMinOpPP and ZDS1 IMinOpPE block)
One polarizing block using the faulted phases information coming from the impedance starting condition detector
(Polarizing block)
One distance directional element (Dir-Z block)
TOC subrelay:
One inverse characteristic phase overcurrent element (TOC Phase block)
One inverse characteristic residual overcurrent element (TOC Residual block)
One not directional inverse characteristic phase overcurrent element with minimum activation threshold and
additional trip delay (Toc2, Toc2 tLow and Toc2 I>Low block)
One time defined phase overcurrent element (Toc2 I>High block)
The ABB REL 670 model can be configured to support the following additional features:
o POTT (Permissive overreach transfer trip) scheme. It can be enabled setting equal to TRIP the POTTTRIP
variable in the logic tab page of the ZMCPDIS Output Logic, ZMHPDIS Output Logic and ZMQPDIS Output
Logic block dialog.
o Single phase trip. It can be enabled setting equal to TRIP the single_pole_trip variable in the logic tab page of
the ZMCPDIS Output Logic, ZMHPDIS Output Logic and ZMQPDIS Output Logic block dialog.
o Two phases trip. It can be enabled setting equal to TRIP the two_poles_trip variable in the logic tab page of the
ZMCPDIS Output Logic, ZMHPDIS Output Logic and ZMQPDIS Output Logic block dialog.
The model implementation has been based on the information available in the Technical reference manual
