(CBSE). Admission to Vidyalayas is done at the class VI level through an open test conducted
at District level by the CBSE. About 80 students are admitted in each JNV which ensure all-

from input in other non-scholastic areas by providing good facilities for sports, NSS, Scouts &
Guides adventure activities , Computer education etc.

One of the salient features of the Navodaya Vidyalayas is migration under which 30% of

DISTRICT - KARNATAKA
(An Autonomous Organization under Ministry of Human Resources
Development,
Department of School Education & Literacy, Government of India)

MISSION STATEMENT
TO MOTIVATE THE STUDENTS TO IMBIBE VALUES BY PROVIDING EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES IN THE
RESIDENTIAL SYSTEM AND TO ENCOURAGE THE STUDENTS TO LEARN LIFE SKILLS THROUGH THEIR
INVOLVEMENT IN THE PLANNED ACTIVITIES WITH AN AIM TO BE AN EXCELLENT PACE SETTTING SCHOOL
IN THE DISTRICT WITH REGARD TO SHARING OF RESOURCES AND EXPERTISE WITH NEIGHBOURING AND
DESERVING SCHOOLS FOR IMPROVING QUALITY OF EDUCATION.

Navodaya Vidyalaya, Bangalore Urban district, is one of the schools under Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti and is located
in Bagalur, Yelahanka North, blessed with all sorts of facilities. It is universally accepted that children with special
talent or aptitude should be provided with opportunities to proceed at a faster pace by making quality education
available to them, irrespective of their capacity to pay for it. The National Educational Policy on Education-1986
envisaged that pace -setting intended to serve this purpose will be established in various parts of the country. On a
given pattern, but with full scope for innovation and experimentation, their broad aims will be to serve the objective of
excellence coupled with equity and social justice, to promote national integration by providing opportunities to the
talented children largely rural, form different walks of life and distinct parts to live and learn together, to develop their
full potential and most importantly, to become catalysts of a nation-wide programme of school improvement.
Accordingly, a scheme was formulated under which it was decided to set up residential schools, to be called
NAVODAYA VIDYALAYAs,on an average one in each district during the seventh five year plan.

Objectives and Salient Features:

1: To provide good quality modern education including a strong component of culture, inculcation of values
awareness of the environment, adventure activities and physical education to the talented children predominantly
from the rural areas, without regard to their familys socio-economic education
2: To ensure that all students of Navodaya vidyalayas attain in a reasonable level of competence in three languages
as envisaged in the three language formula

3: To serve, in each district, as focal points for improvement in quality of school education in general through
sharing of experiences and facilities and

4: One of the important features of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme is migrating 30% of the children from one
Navodaya to another at Class-IX level. The Executive Committee in its meeting, the period of migration has been
reduced to one year in order to enable the students to take advantage of domicile requirement for attaining higher
education particularly in professional courses in their respective home State/UTs. The migration is expected to take
place generally between Hindi and non-Hindi speaking districts. The students to be migrated are generally selected
by the vidyalaya, on the basis of students volition and a lottery where sufficient number is not coming forward
voluntarily. JNV Bangalore Urban is linked to JNV, Tikamgarh, Madhya Pradesh which is around 1500 km away.
Every year 30% of the total strength of students of IX is migrated from both sides. The students selected are quite
happy to go on migration.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Doddaballapur was established in the year 1986. It is located
on the State Highway from Bangalore-Hindupur Road between Doddaballapur and
Bashettihalli village. This Vidyalaya is a precious jewel on the silk bowl of the country. It has
come a long way from its humble beginning to its present glory. The first batch of 66
students joined on 15-12-1986 and the Vidyalaya started functioning in the temporary
building provided by the State Government. Ever since its inception the Institution has been
growing in leaps and bounds despite many odds, in infrastructural developments, progress
in Academics, Sports and Curricular activities. Today, the Vidyalaya is full-fledged with a
sprawling and superb campus of 17.5 acres, which abounds with huge shady trees yielding
luscious fruits and the luxuriant variety of flora spreading greenery everywhere. The lawn &
the garden that adorns the entrance of the Vidyalaya, the Rising Sun that is trapped in the
landscape painting on the elevated wall of the Academic Block not only embellishes the total
beauty but also kindles ones aesthetic sense.

The Vidyalaya has fulfilled the objectives & vision that the pioneers had when they mooted
the idea of establishing it. Today it has carved a niche for itself in Bangalore Rural District
as one of the model & premier Institutions imparting quality Education. The Navodaya
products who have spread their wings far & wide bear eloquent testimony to the type of
Education & Training they had received.

We are proud to participate in this onerous task of not only discovering their rural talent but
also developing it, improving upon it and preparing the future citizens of India.
