Show students a video on YouTube to start the class.
o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZCcRzgrr8Y
After watching the video ask students about some of the words they heard and write the
words on the board. Next, lead a discussion about what these words have in common.
Transition to the lesson by introducing pronouns.

Instruction: ___20_____ Minutes

Students will take notes from an interactive smart board presentation. First, I will define
what a pronoun is and explain that there are different types of pronouns. I will introduce
subjective pronouns to the class and explain that we use subjective pronouns to replace nouns
in the subject of the sentence. I will give students a chart of all the subjective pronouns, and I
will model for them how to replace a noun in the subject of a sentence with a pronoun and how
to write a sentence when given a specific pronoun. Next, students will come up to the
smartboard to complete interactive examples. Finally, students will make an eight-sided die and
write a subjective pronoun on each face.

Structured Practice and Application: ___25_____ Minutes

For structured practice and application, students will roll the die they created and will write a
sentence with the pronoun they rolled on a piece of notebook paper I will do an example on the
Smartboard before allowing students to work independently. I will pair students up and the pair
will do this exercise until they have 5 complete sentences. I will walk around to make sure
students are staying on task and are completing the task correctly. Next, students will complete
a subject pronoun worksheet individually in which they will circle subjective pronouns in a
sentence, and substitute a pronoun for a subject. I will walk around to lend support to struggling
students.

Closure: ___5____ Minutes

I will orally review the 8 different subjective pronouns with students. I will take up the
worksheet the students have completed to check for understanding.
